JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, the Director of Communications and Information Technology plans, organizes, and directs the District’s technology and information programs to support district goals, staff, and students. The Director of Communications and Information Technology designs and implements strategic communications regarding all aspects of the District’s public information plan, and leads the development and utilization of technology hardware and software, and other related educational technologies for the District’s instruction and administrative needs.

EXPERIENCE

  • At least five years of work in school district operations, public education, or equivalent experience. Previous school leadership/administration experience preferred.
  • Ability to review, understand, and interpret school law, audit reports and Michigan Department of Education reporting requirements.
  • Expertise and/or experience in: Google Suite; Microsoft Office; Skyward Student Information System; the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) and Michigan Association for Educational Data Systems (MAEDS); Windows systems and networking, Mac iOS and Apple systems and networking, and TCP/IP infrastructure.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial data to administrators, community groups, and the Board of Education.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to use computers and computer software, and other office machines.
  • Demonstrated skill with supervisory functions such as: performance evaluation, resource deployment, budget development/management, data-driven decision making, problem solving, coaching, and conflict management.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects, take initiative, exercise independent judgment, and work collaboratively within varied team compositions and across stakeholder groups as a leader or team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data and research within a strategic planning and continuous improvement process to inform implementation of programs and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to use interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and gain cooperation of others internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to use facilitation skills to manage change and anticipate future needs of stakeholders
  • Ability to transport between school buildings, districts, and cities.

    Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year

Responsibilities
  • Participate in identifying, planning, and establishing goals and objectives related to technology and information programs; monitor and revise the District’s technology plan.
  • Establish and maintain procedures for technology systems, including but not limited to: system-wide user accounts, access rights, problem reporting and resolution, etc.
  • Lead strategic planning, development, and maintenance of the district’s information technology resources in support of the instructional program and district administration.
  • Develop and manage technology budget to maintain fiscal accountability; identify and secure funding for implementation of technology via Federal, State, and regional grants and discounting opportunities, including serving as the District E-Rate coordinator.
  • Complete technology projects by coordinating resources and timetables with user departments and directing the design, development, and maintenance of systems.
  • Deploy network equipment, including but not limited to switches, routers, wireless, IP-based security, and AV equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations, as well as District policies and procedures.
  • Direct and monitor network services, and ensure the successful performance, security, storage, and disaster data recovery of voice, video, and data network technologies.
  • Coordinate with instructional staff to support district-wide instructional assessments and device needs.
  • Plan and provide technology training and technical support activities related to the use and implementation of technology for all district staff.
  • Maintain an up-to-date technology inventory and coordinate the procurement of all equipment, materials, and supplies related to technology.
  • Support administrators in the collection and analysis of information data systems, to ensure the integrity of information utilized for district funding and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent to implement and evaluate a comprehensive district communication plan that is aligned to District goals, including but not limited to social media, media relations, as well as a crisis communication plan.
  • Develop, write, and produce various materials for internal and external distribution, including newsletters, brochures, editorials, videos, social media content, etc.
  • Manage the content of District and school websites, develop and manage all social media channels, oversee content for all digital signs, and assist departments and school sites with website social media presence and other forms of outreach.
  • Attend and represent the District at meetings for Information Technology, Educational Technology, Communications, and Public Information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
