Position Summary The Director of Compensation & Payroll is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization’s compensation strategy while leading the global payroll function to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing. This role reports into Finance and works in close partnership with Human Resources to support business strategy, talent attraction, retention, and compliance across the organization. This is a highly visible role requiring strong analytical capability, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment. Primary Roles and Responsibilities Design, implement, and manage compensation programs, policies, and practices across all employee levels. Conduct market benchmarking and analysis to support annual merit, incentive, and compensation planning cycles. Support and help facilitate merit and bonus processes as needed. Lead departmental payroll and headcount budgeting in coordination with Finance and HR. Align compensation structures with business objectives, organizational growth, and internal equity. Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure competitive and compliant compensation practices. Oversee the global payroll function to ensure timely and accurate processing of wages, bonuses, deductions, taxes, and withholdings. Lead the evaluation, recommendation, and implementation of payroll software or external payroll providers. Develop, implement, and maintain payroll policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, and international regulations. Serve as the internal subject matter expert on payroll matters, advising leadership and mitigating risk. Ensure payroll data is accurately recorded and supports accounting, compliance, and financial reporting requirements. Develop and maintain internal controls, including self-audit processes, to ensure accuracy of payroll data supporting benefits, workers’ compensation, and other downstream uses. Reconcile monthly payroll and headcount to cost centers and financial records. Present clear, data-driven recommendations and reporting to senior leadership. Educate managers and employees on compensation programs, payroll processes, and deferred compensation where applicable. Lead, develop, and mentor payroll professionals. Partner closely with Finance, HR, and business leaders to support growth initiatives and organizational change. Requirements Experience and Education Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in compensation, with a strong understanding of payroll operations. At least 5 years of people management experience. CCP (Certified Compensation Professional), CPP (Certified Payroll Professional), or similar certifications preferred. Strong analytical, financial modeling, and advanced Excel skills. Proven ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
