Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Senior General Manager, the Director of Culinary Services will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality dining experiences for residents in both Long-Term Care (LTC) and Retirement residence settings. This is an exciting opportunity to manage a dynamic culinary team, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive excellence in food services while fostering a warm, engaging environment for our residents.
As part of the management team, you will have the unique opportunity to create and maintain a dining experience that aligns with our Purpose, vision and values. You will also manage all aspects of food service, from purchasing and inventory control to menu planning and catering, and ensure exceptional service delivery on all fronts.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Provide direction to the Culinary team while delivering orientation, training, and performance management process
  • Prepare schedule for each shift and ensure adequate staffing levels, in accordance with budgetary guidelines
  • Work with the Senior General Manager/ Senior Executive Director in budget development
  • Leadership and performance management of Director of Dietary Services, Sous Chef and Dining Room manager
  • Supervise all aspects of food production including the use of the Meal suite production systems
  • Conduct regular meal service rounds for all dining areas
  • Conduct daily inspection of the kitchen and serveries to identify and resolve issues
  • Understand basic HACCP principles to ensure food and equipment safety
  • Handles labour relation issues, including disciplining team members, according to the collective agreement
  • Attend all mandatory and pertinent in-services offered at the home affecting the provision of resident care
  • Ensure all procedures are followed by dietary team members related to Infection Control procedures for dietary and food services
  • Ensure team members are educated and complies with safety policies and procedures as it relates to food safety, and safe equipment operation
  • Counsel residents and families on basic therapeutic diets
  • Oversee the quality management program for all Dietary related audits according to a set schedule and ensure Long Term Care & Retirement audits are completed
  • Develop and sustain operational plans for the effective operation of the dietary department
  • Lead the development of the annual departmental budget
  • Ensure effective and efficient procurement and supply control procedures within the department
  • Respond promptly to concerns of residents and family members and implement action plan to avoid reoccurrence of similar issues
