JOB PURPOSE The Director of Development – Annual Gifts is a key member of Inland SoCal United Way’s senior leadership team and is responsible for designing, implementing, and leading a comprehensive and strategic fundraising program to secure unrestricted revenue. This position is integral to supporting the mission of both Inland SoCal United Way and Inland SoCal 211+, benefiting programs that improve lives for 1 million people. The role focuses on maximizing fundraising and donor engagement through workplace campaigns, affinity groups, corporate partnerships, event management, and staff leadership. This position involves frequent local travel across Riverside, San Bernardino, and East Los Angeles counties and must currently reside in or be willing to relocate to our service area. A successful candidate will have a penchant for donor relationship stewardship, customer portfolios, presenting to large audiences, leading newer fundraisers to success, creating and running high performance events and building exceptional customer experiences. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Fundraising & Donor Engagement • Design and execute annual and multi-year fundraising plans across the donor engagement lifecycle in collaboration with senior leadership and staff to meet annual revenue goals. • Shape long-term fundraising strategy by exploring new funding streams and diversifying revenue, ensuring sustainability for 2026 and beyond. • Identify and manage portfolios of top workplace donors and prospects, collaborating with the Chief Executive Officer to provide opportunities for CEO engagement. • Direct efforts to secure support through corporate, individual, and employee giving, including handling a specific donor portfolio and supporting portfolios assigned to fundraising staff. • Determine key metrics, accountability, and reporting mechanisms aligned with performance and growth objectives for the Workplace Giving Team. • Develop and implement multiple fundraising and engagement events annually, ranging from smaller Lunch & Learn or volunteer events to galas and community celebrations, including convening board and staff committees, securing sponsorships, and leading the run of show. • Work closely with the Executive Director of Brand Engagement and Executive Director of Narrative to create collateral and messaging. • Discern new opportunities, confidently present ideas to leaders, keep supervisors informed about donor/relationship environment, and track and follow-up on detailed communications. Donor Stewardship • Communicate diligently and clearly with a high standard for quality external facing written correspondence and materials, meetings with donors and prospects, and presentations. • Work collaboratively and respectfully with staff, donors, funders, and other stakeholders from many different backgrounds, skills sets, and expertise. • Foster creative thinking and facilitate future partnerships within corporate accounts. • Build, sustain, and nurture relationships with workplace campaign partners, including stewarding and supporting the roster of over 200 volunteer Employee Campaign Managers. • Record relevant data measuring Key Performance Indicators within the proper CRM tool. • Ensure workplace pledge processing and recognition is timely and accurate, collaborating with fundraising and finance staff and workplace partners. • Evaluate and analyze workplace giving results and recommend changes in collaboration with executive leadership. Team Leadership • Lead, coach, and mentor staff to conduct fundraising and donor engagement, often including individuals new to fundraising activities as well as seasoned leaders. • Work closely with programmatic teams to create cohesion between donor engagement, program outreach and volunteer management. • Convene fundraising and other organizational staff in learning opportunities to promote fundraising best practices across the organization. • Champion and model effective resource development principles and the spirit of philanthropy while adhering to the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Code of Ethics. • Plan and implement the annual employee giving campaign for United Way and 211 staff, focusing on culture building and employee engagement. Lean Participation • Participate in department and organization-wide Lean processes used by Inland SoCal United Way and Inland SoCal 211+, a continuous improvement framework for identifying and reducing waste to improve systems and results. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS • Applicants should have the education, experience, and/or training necessary to fulfill the job duties and responsibilities. Examples of how this requirement may be met include: o Bachelor’s degree in health or human services such as social work, human services, sociology, psychology, or in business, public relations, or a related field with 4 years of relevant experience; OR o High School Diploma, GED, or High School Equivalency with 6 years of experience in a relevant field with demonstrated leadership and progressive responsibility. • Required: o Requires at least 4 years of frontline fundraising experience, including cultivating and growing giving with individual, corporate, and institutional donors. o Ability to write, speak, and present to diverse stakeholders and audiences, and to persuade and motivate skillfully, one-on-one and speaking to small and large groups. o Ability to write persuasive, clear, and concise emails with minimal guidance, but prefers face-to-face and phone conversations first. o Advanced ability to establish, maintain, and develop strong working relationships. o Practices strong self-leadership, takes initiative and operates effectively, even in shifting or uncertain conditions. o Advanced proactivity and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify project specifications even when an end user has an incomplete sense of their needs. o Thrives in a results-based environment that requires setting appropriate, measurable goals and participating in regular progress reports with a high standard of success. o Proven track record in planning and executing high-impact fundraising events, with demonstrated ability to manage budgets, coordinate cross-functional teams, and cultivate donor relationships through strategic event experiences. o Proven experience in supervising and coaching staff with a track record of fostering team growth to collaboratively achieve ambitious goals. o Must be able to work with diverse groups and appropriately tailor communication style to the audience, including staff, board members, volunteers, and external stakeholders. o Strong computer skills and competence in Microsoft Office and CRM software. o Ability and commitment to using a trauma-informed and equity lens to empathetically communicate with stakeholders and donors about the nature of community needs. Preferred: o Experience with grantwriting and securing grant invitations from foundations and corporate partners Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an office using standard office equipment such as the telephone, computer, fax machine, and copier.
