Description Mission: SPCSC is a vibrant and growing campus ministry of the Diocese of Austin whose mission is to welcome and serve the students of Baylor University, McLennan Community College (MCC) and Texas State Technical College (TSTC) by nurturing spiritual growth through reverent worship, holistic formation, hospitable fellowship, and generous service within the Catholic tradition. Position summary: The Director of Development position requires a highly motivated professional with a mission-oriented mentality and ability to build relationships locally, state wide, and nationally. These relationships include, but are not limited to parishioners, parents of students, Catholic foundations, and local philanthropists. The Director of Development will have good leadership and management skills and meaningful experience in promoting and cultivating financial generosity as well as the important work of stewardship. The Director of Development is both an ambassador and an advocate for the mission of SPCSC. The Director of Development plays a major role in shaping and achieving the overall strategic goals of SPCSC by promoting sustainability and growth through annual appeals, special events, grants, and campaigns. The Director of Development reports to the Rector and works in close partnership with the Chair of the Leadership Council, the Chair of the Finance Council, SPCSC staff, students, and volunteers of SPCSC. Ministerial Character The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St. Peter Catholic Student Center which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them. Positions employed at St. Peter Catholic Student Center help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and implement an annual development plan for SPCSC Oversee, manage, and approve the overall fundraising efforts of SPCSC ministries (staff led and volunteer led) Work with the Rector to accomplish fundraising and annual budget goals Initiate and maintain positive working relationships with a broad spectrum of people (donors, Leadership Council members, volunteers, staff, students, etc.) Maintain donor records, including inputting donor reports after donor meetings or providing Development Assistant with the tools to do so Coordinate the solicitations of and acknowledgement of donations, including major gifts and routine giving Facilitate and attend meetings with donors, prospective donors, businesses, etc. Supervise grant development and associated correspondence and reports Coordinate and execute all fundraising events Attend other major staff events and other major parish events that may help advance development efforts, including but not limited to Kick Off Weekend Masses, Baccalaureate Masses, Family Weekend, Homecoming, and Baylor Catholic Connect Recruit, work with, and steward volunteers for development events Serve as liaison to the Confraternity of Mary (Catholic faculty group) Ensure timely tracking and follow-up of grant solicitation, implementation, acknowledgements, and reporting Conduct effective campaign strategies for direct mail appeals Oversees communications between Development Office and SPCSC as a whole Provide support to the Capital Campaign Committee, Rector, and Campaign Consultant, including Prepares reports on fundraising efforts for Rector, Finance Council, and Campaign Committees Maintain accurate donor records pertaining to capital campaign Ensure timely coordinating of campaign donor acknowledgements Assist the capital campaign committee in identifying potential donors Collaborates with the accountant and development team to reconcile donations and ensure that donations are accurately recorded Abide by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethics and standards Perform additional duties as assigned by the Rector to include special projects to assist in the overall fundraising efforts Requirements Qualifications/Skills: As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of SPCSC in both your professional and personal life. Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church. Will be an effective member of the SPCSC team, participating in all staff meetings, staff gatherings, and events Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed. Successful track record in prospect research, cultivation and the direct solicitation of major gifts, especially candidates with proven ability to generate gifts of $25,000 and above, and with professional experience spanning the full spectrum of philanthropic fund development (major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, prospect research, grant application, proposal development, special events, etc.) Proven ability to think strategically, generate and implement successful fundraising plans, measure outcomes and adjust strategies to maximize goal attainment Effective written and verbal communication skills Knowledge of social media tools Ability to handle flexible hours, including weekend and evenings Maintain high level of professionalism and confidentiality at all times Able to multi-task in high stress situations Action oriented work ethic Commitment to the mission and goals of SPCSC and ability to articulate its mission Computer skills (Internet applications, Microsoft Office, word processing, and fundraising database) Minimum Qualifications: Education and Trainings: • Bachelor’s Degree requirement. Experience: • At least three years of progressive fundraising experience and leadership, including demonstrable management skills and ability to steward a multi-faceted development program. Licenses/Certifications: • Valid Texas driver’s license. • Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period. Working Conditions: • All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church. • The Parish is an at-will employer. • All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free. • Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly. • Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations. • Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards. • May be required to use personal or parish vehicle to drive to off-site locations. • Travelling within and outside the parish to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging.
