JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION

Location: Chase, BC
Position Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary Range: $91,000 – $100,100 annually (negotiable based on experience)
Reports to: Band Administrator (Director of Operations)

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Neskonlith Indian Band is seeking a Director of Education to lead our Education Department, including the Neskonlith Adult Learning Centre, Neskonlith Education Centre (NEC Gr.7-12), S’katsin and Switzmalph daycares, K–12 systems in School Districts 73 & 83, and all associated Post Secondary education programs.
This leadership role is pivotal in shaping the educational landscape for our community, balancing cultural integrity with modern innovation. The Director of Education will oversee strategic development, educational programming, staff supervision, and funding compliance, while also representing Neskonlith students within School Districts 73 and 83.
The goal of the Director of Education is to advocate for and support Neskonlith students in achieving their academic, cultural, and career aspirations.

STRATEGIC & EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Develop and implement comprehensive education strategies that reflect community aspirations.
  • Ensure all programming is culturally relevant, high quality, and aligned with provincial and federal standards.
  • Develop and maintain Local Education Agreements and other external partnerships.
  • Advocate for First Nations values and student needs in collaboration with school boards.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, policy, or related field (master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of teaching experience within Indigenous or culturally diverse school settings.
  • Nominal Roll knowledge and/or experience.
  • DRUMS knowledge and/or experience.
  • Minimum 10 years experience as a principal and/or vice principal.
  • Experience in curriculum development, instructional leadership, and professional development.
  • Strong knowledge of ISC, FNSA, and FNSA reporting requirements and funding processes.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team-building abilities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in data analysis to measure student success and program impact.
  • Budget management and funding proposal experience.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to integrate Indigenous knowledge and traditions into programming.
  • Ability to travel as needed and represent Neskonlith in external partnerships.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to undergo a criminal record & vulnerable sector check.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle.

  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate education department staff.
  • Liaise with agencies, institutions, and funding bodies to ensure compliance and proper accreditation.
  • Develop and implement Education Policies and Procedures.
  • Prepare reports and provide updates to the Band Administrator, Chief & Council as required.
