Description
Our Mission is to Simplify Life. We simplify and automate complex decision-making for customer-centric industries, Utilities, Financial Services, Logistics, and Government, that drive the world's economies. We are looking for a technically dominant, operationally rigorous Director of Emerging Technology to lead our EmTech engineering team in Jordan. This is a senior technical leadership appointment for someone who will own the full engineering mandate of our Emerging Technology practice, setting the standard for how we architect, build, and deliver cutting-edge solutions across low-code enterprise platforms, microservices, and modern cloud-native stacks. You will lead a team of highly skilled engineers who build on complex, production-grade systems. Your technical depth must match theirs. You are the kind of leader who can engage in deep architectural debates, evaluate engineering trade-offs with precision, and make technology decisions that hold up under production pressure. Your credibility is built on expertise, not title. But technical mastery is only half the mandate. You will serve as the anchor of the EmTech team, the senior leader who absorbs external complexity from clients and executives and translates it into calm, structured direction for your engineers. You will build and sustain a culture of accountability, equitable performance, and relentless delivery discipline. You will ensure that every engineer on your team operates with clarity on their priorities, confidence in their leadership, and pride in an environment where merit is the only currency. You operate on a strict, logical sequence: first you define the What (what exactly needs to be built and why), then the How (the architecture, methodology, and engineering approach), and only then the Who (the right talent deployed to the right work). You have the rare ability to take a deeply technical challenge and distill it into language that any stakeholder, technical or executive, can immediately understand and act on. Core Mindset & Traits This role demands more than credentials. It demands character. The right candidate will recognize themselves in the following: Technically Unimpeachable Your engineers respect you before you ever discuss leadership philosophy because you can architect a system on a whiteboard, debug a pipeline in a terminal, and evaluate an engineering estimate with the fluency of someone who has shipped production systems for years. Your technical credibility is not a line on your resume; it is the foundation of your authority. Mission-Oriented, Not Approval-Seeking You are driven by outcomes, not consensus. You understand that building a high-performing engineering team sometimes means making unpopular decisions. You don't seek permission to lead, you lead, and your results earn the trust. Pressure Absorber, Not Pressure Forwarder When external urgency hits, client escalations, executive priorities, cross-functional demands, your team never feels the turbulence. They feel a clear plan. You absorb pressure from clients and leadership and convert it into structured, actionable direction for your engineers. This is the quality that separates transformative leaders from competent managers. Empathetic but Immovable You care deeply about your people. You invest in their growth, you listen when they struggle, and you celebrate their wins. But you do not confuse empathy with leniency. Standards apply equally to everyone. Exceptions are not a leadership tool in your vocabulary, consistency is. Data Over Narrative You build cultures where the numbers speak. Dashboards, burn-down charts, defect rates, and deployment logs are your leadership instruments. You have created performance environments before where objective metrics removed ambiguity, rewarded top performers, and gave everyone a fair, transparent picture of where they stand. Operator, Not a Theorist You've read the frameworks. You've earned the certifications. But your real education was forged in live engineering delivery, systems you scaled, teams you built, deadlines you met, and engineering organizations you shaped into machines that ship with precision and pride. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence You will serve as the senior technical authority for the Emerging Technology team, setting the bar for how systems are designed, built, and delivered. Provide hands-on technical oversight across the EmTech engineering portfolio, with deep expertise in low-code enterprise platforms (Mendix or equivalent), microservices architecture, API-driven integrations, and modern cloud-native engineering stacks. Personally engage in architecture reviews, engineering estimates, and technical decision-making, ensuring the team builds scalable, production-grade systems and that every commitment is grounded in honest, rigorous assessment. Drive engineering excellence through code quality standards, technical debt management, and design review practices that elevate the craft across the entire team. Lead the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies, AI/ML integration, intelligent automation, edge computing, with the discipline to separate market hype from production-ready capability aligned with Avertra's product roadmap. Establish engineering KPIs, velocity, defect density, deployment frequency, mean time to recovery, that objectively measure team performance and drive continuous improvement. EmTech Team Leadership & Culture You will be the single point of engineering leadership for the Emerging Technology team, owning the technical direction, team culture, and delivery mandate. Serve as the senior engineering leader for the EmTech team, ensuring all technical decisions, team priorities, and delivery commitments are made with clarity, consistency, and full executive backing. Act as the strategic buffer between external pressures and your engineering team, absorbing client urgency, executive priorities, and cross-functional demands, and translating them into calm, prioritized, actionable direction for your engineers. Build and enforce transparent, consistent engineering practices, from sprint ceremonies to quarterly technical reviews, so that every engineer on the team operates under the same expectations and the same standards. Foster a team culture rooted in technical excellence, accountability, and mutual respect, where energy is directed toward building great products, leadership decisions are respected, and every team member has confidence in the system. Establish a structured communication cadence between the EmTech team and global leadership, ensuring full visibility, alignment, and trust without creating noise or unnecessary escalation. Delivery Execution & Performance Management You will own end-to-end delivery performance for the EmTech team, building a reputation for engineering precision and reliability. Own delivery accountability across all EmTech programs and projects, on time, on budget, and on spec. Implement a rigorous delivery governance framework: sprint planning discipline, milestone tracking, dependency management, and risk escalation protocols that surface problems early and resolve them fast. Run data-driven delivery reviews where every squad presents progress against objective metrics, not status narratives, but measurable evidence of delivery health, risk posture, and quality trends. Establish quantitative performance metrics for every engineer and every squad, tied to delivery outcomes and professional growth targets. Performance conversations become straightforward when the data speaks for itself. Identify and address performance gaps with speed and fairness. Coach where coaching will accelerate growth; make decisive calls where the situation demands it. Protect team output by holding every individual to the same bar. Building a Performance-First, Equitable Engineering Culture You will build an engineering environment where merit is the only measure and every engineer has a fair shot at growth. Champion a radically equitable performance culture where promotions, bonuses, project assignments, and recognition are earned through measurable contribution, never through tenure, relationships, or lobbying. Anchor every performance evaluation to objective, documented criteria that are visible to the individual before the evaluation period begins. No surprises. No subjectivity. No bias. Build career development frameworks that give every engineer, regardless of background or seniority, a clear, documented path to growth with specific competency milestones and skill requirements. Partner with HR to ensure hiring, onboarding, and retention practices for the EmTech team reflect the highest standards of fairness and consistency. Foster an environment where diverse technical talent thrives, through a system that genuinely rewards capability, eliminates favoritism, and empowers engineers to do the best work of their careers. Engineering Talent Development You will build the EmTech engineering leadership pipeline and ensure every member of your team has the clarity and support to grow. Directly mentor and develop engineering leads and senior engineers, building the next generation of technical leaders who can run squads with the same operational rigor and technical credibility you bring. Ensure every engineer operates with absolute clarity on their scope, priorities, and growth trajectory. No ambiguity about what "good" looks like, what's expected this quarter, or what it takes to advance. Design onboarding programs that bring new EmTech engineers to productive capacity rapidly, defining what "ready to contribute" means and holding the process accountable to that standard. Simplify performance metrics across the team: replace complexity with clear, outcome-based criteria that engineers and leads actually understand and can act on. Create a learning culture where engineers are encouraged to deepen their expertise, explore emerging technologies, and share knowledge, making the EmTech team a destination for top regional engineering talent. Requirements Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline (required). Master's degree in a technical or management discipline (strongly preferred). Technical Expertise Deep, hands-on experience with low-code enterprise platforms, specifically Mendix or architecturally equivalent platforms (OutSystems, Power Platform at enterprise scale). You must be able to evaluate technical feasibility, review application architecture, and challenge engineering decisions at the implementation level. Proven expertise in microservices architecture, API design, event-driven systems, and distributed computing patterns. Strong command of modern engineering stacks: cloud-native development (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices. Working knowledge of software quality engineering: automated testing frameworks, performance benchmarking, and release management processes. Demonstrated ability to evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, AI/ML integration, intelligent automation, edge computing, with the discipline to distinguish production-ready capability from market noise. Leadership & Experience 15+ years in technology roles, with at least 5 years in engineering leadership positions managing teams of 20+ engineers in a product, consulting, or enterprise software environment. Proven experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams, establishing the technical standards, cultural norms, and delivery discipline that transform good teams into exceptional ones. Experience serving as the senior technical leader for an engineering practice, team, or center of excellence, with full authority over technical direction, team performance, and delivery outcomes. Experience building and enforcing performance management systems, objective, metric-driven evaluation frameworks that ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability. Demonstrated success in client-facing technical delivery in a consulting or professional services environment, including direct executive stakeholder communication. History of mentoring and developing engineering leads, building leaders, not just contributors. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities In-depth understanding of Agile, SAFe, DAD, and hybrid delivery methodologies, with the practical wisdom to know when frameworks help and when they need adaptation. Exceptional written and verbal communication in English (required) and Arabic (required). Advanced skills in team building, change leadership, and building high-performance cultures within engineering organizations Proficiency in engineering and delivery management tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence, and data visualization/dashboarding platforms).
