YOUR CHALLENGE AT WIRE

We are looking for an experienced Director of Engineering to lead and grow our engineering teams, ensuring technical excellence and a high-performing culture. This role demands strategic technical leadership as well as effective project, delivery and people management, overseeing three dedicated engineering teams.

• Backend Team: Responsible for developing and maintaining our communication platform’s backend, written in Haskell.
• Platform Team: Ensuring our platform is reliable, highly available and performant, and a pleasure for developers to work on.
• Integrations Team: Focused on creating bots, SDKs, and integrations that extend the functionality of our messaging platform.

You will manage the Engineering Managers of these teams, align engineering efforts with company objectives, and champion best practices in software development, infrastructure, and team collaboration, ensuring the timely delivery of roadmap items. You will work closely with the Director of Engineering responsible for the client teams, as well as product and engineering leadership.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AT WIRE

• Directly oversee and mentor the engineering managers for the Backend, Platform, and Integrations teams, growing their skills to maximize their and their teams impact on the company KPIs
• Establish clear goals, metrics, and priorities for each team, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across engineering teams and other departments.
• Work closely with the product organization to define high-level delivery strategies and iterative specifications, focusing on providing incremental value
• Monitor the progress of development projects, ensuring alignment with company objectives and adherence to high-quality standards.
• Manage budgets, timelines, and resources efficiently.
• Implement best practices in software development and ensure thorough documentation.
• Ensure alignment between business objectives and technical initiatives by building a technical roadmap that contains the appropriate items and priorities.
• Master your teams scopes to drive what needs to be done and guide how to do it, to both fulfill today’s needs and anticipate tomorrow’s challenges
• Promote innovation and stay updated with industry trends and technological advancements.
