Description

We are seeking a dynamic, result-driven Director of Engineering to support the executive team. This key role offers the opportunity to influence technological advancements in emerging fields while aligning with the company’s strategic goals and growth objectives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Engineering
  • 10 yrs of experience in roles with increasing responsibility, including 5 years in engineering management/leadership role
  • Specific knowledge in multiple technical engineering areas relevant to Flight Works activities, such as mechanical, fluids, heat transfer, propulsion, structures, avionics hardware & software, and space systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Detail oriented, with excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Able to think strategically and align engineering goals with overall business objectives
  • Able to work well in a diverse team including daily interactions with technicians, engineers, and management
  • Demonstrated capabilities in successfully executing complex projects
  • “US Person” eligible to receive technical data controlled under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) or the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MS in Engineering, MBA, or equivalent
  • Experience in the aerospace industry; experience in space industry strongly preferred
  • Familiar with aerospace standards

Responsibilities

As Director of Engineering, you manage and oversee all aspects of the engineering department, including team leadership, project management, and strategic planning. You are responsible for setting the technical direction, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget, and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. You also play a key role in hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering talent, as well as collaborating with other departments to align engineering efforts with overall business objectives.Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Leading, mentoring, and managing a team of engineering managers and their teams. The teams include fluidic components, propulsion, structures, avionics hardware & software, environmental testing and space systems integration.
  • Fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Conducting performance reviews and providing constructive feedback.
  • Participating in the hiring process for new engineering talent.
  • Developing and implementing engineering strategies and initiatives.

Project Management:

  • Overseeing the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects in both structured and agile settings.
  • Ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Monitoring project progress and providing regular updates to senior management.
  • Managing resource allocation and prioritizing projects based on business needs.

Technical Direction and Strategy:

  • Setting the technical direction for the engineering team and aligning it with the overall business objectives.
  • Staying up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to Flight Works businesses.
  • Identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Developing and implementing new technologies and methodologies to enhance engineering processes and develop new market-leading products responsive to customer needs.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborating with other departments, such as Sales and Production, to ensure alignment of engineering efforts.
  • Communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Budget Management:

  • Developing and managing the engineering department’s budget.
  • Monitoring expenses and ensuring they align with the budget.

Compliance and Quality:

  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and quality control measures.
  • Implementing and refining engineering processes and standards.
