DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

Job Summary
The Director of Engineering will plan and direct all aspects of engineering activities and projects within the Company. This position will ensure all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with S&S established policies and objectives while managing overall engineering budget and costs. The Director of Engineering will also utilize best practice engineering methods and provide expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and coordinates the on-time and on-budget design, development and release of new models and new features to existing amusement ride designs
  • Manages and supervises full engineering process in order ensure that product is released on time and in compliance with all engineering specifications, including staffing requirements, work procedures and duty assignments
  • Establish strategy and best practices for staff to ensure achievement of overall business objectives
  • Coordinate with manufacturing to ensure manufacturability of product while maintaining quality, safety and environmental standards and achieving cost targets in a timely fashion
  • Prepare the annual Engineering budget and forecasts then monitor and control budgetary expenditures in areas of responsibility
  • Work with the Engineering team to translate strategy into specific annual performance goals and departmental objectives. including KPIs, and to track them
  • Report on Engineering activities on a regular basis to the Executive Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant updates
  • Works with Customer Service to address trends in warranty costs and issues for continuous improvement
  • Ensure strong communication between teams under leadership to facilitate exchange of information and in order to implement change and improvements
  • Work with the rest of the leadership team to decide which engineering projects are the highest priority against the business targets and which can be executed with the available resource
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field required; advanced Engineering degree preferred
  • Seven plus years of direct experience in engineering leadership, detail design and commissioning of industrial automation, large conveyance or transportation systems
  • Proven competency in utilizing design standards including AWS, DIN, ASTM, SAE and ASME standards
  • Demonstrated experience in leading design, installation and testing efforts on multi-disciplinary dynamic systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency completing engineering design drawings in SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in engineering analysis using classical calculation methods or MathCad, Ansys or equivalent
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills to audiences at executive, peer and supporting levels
  • Demonstrated experience successfully completing multiple, concurrent, engineering tasks and projects
