GENERAL SUMMARY

Velocity is seeking a results-driven Director of Engineering to lead our Network and Voice Engineering teams. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for building and supporting world-class services and solutions for our customers across verticals in hospitality, student housing, enterprise, commercial, retail, and more. Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, this role directly manages engineering resources, delivers technical excellence, and ensures the successful execution of strategic initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical experience in managed network and VoIP services, with a proven track record building high-performing engineering teams in dynamic, multi-vendor environments. This leader will play a key role in contributing to our technical roadmap, supporting our operational goals, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Velocity, A Managed Solutions Company, operates many diverse and vendor agnostic environments. This role will be responsible for quickly understanding and operating on these networks, using existing documentation and independent discovery of environments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• 8+ years’ experience implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining network systems
• Demonstrated extensive working knowledge of networking protocols and standards (e.g., OSPF, BGP, IPSEC, MPLS, STP, 802.11, VLAN, TCP/IP)
• Strong technical, leadership, and communication skills
• Demonstrate the ability to lead complex projects in a cross functional team environment
• Demonstrate the ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong documentation and presentation skills, including the ability to build and deliver executive-level briefings

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

• Required — Bachelor’s degree in technology related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Required — Advanced experience with at least two of the following products or platforms: ADTRAN, Arista, HPE Aruba, Cisco, Fortinet, MikroTik, Palo Alto, and Ruckus
• Required — Experience developing and managing teams with focus on goal achievement
• Required — 5+ years of demonstrated progressive leadership
• Preferred — Experience in hospitality or service provider networks
• Preferred — Industry relevant certifications — e.g., CCNP, ACMP, RCWA, CWNA, or similar

• Responsible for day-to-day management of Engineering team and workload
• Maintain standard engineering processes and procedures, serving as a champion and facilitator for process changes and improvements
• Drive continuous improvements of process, accuracy, and timelines
• Provide expertise in network-based technologies, supporting our national managed services network
• Act as a mentor and leader to engineering and operations teams
• Perform design work that incorporates industry best practices for hospitality and enterprise networks
• Function as a technical lead for advanced projects requiring network technologies
• Ensure that security improvements are successfully implemented and monitored
• Coordinate proper installation, configuration, and testing of network components
• Assist in developing and maintaining hardware life cycle management methodologies
• Contribute to Velocity’s technology roadmap development
• Foster career growth and development for team members, including certifications, career pathing, and training
• Collaborate with architecture function to ensure that designs are in line with the needs of the current and future requirements from our customers, network platforms, and security compliance
• Engage and manage external vendors as appropriate to enhance the team’s capabilities
• Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
• Participate in after-hours incident escalation as needed
• This position may require travel occasionally
