Job Title: Director of Engineering / VP of Engineering

DAY-TO-DAY:
· Managing the work (50%) Provide programmatic and technical leadership, mentoring, and direction to DDOE’s and the engineering department. Coordinate with the PMO to resolve conflicts, adjust resources, and ensure contract compliance. Partner with HTR to plan challenging tasking, test concepts, and leverage enabling technologies. Lead regular engineering meetings to address issues, track goals, and recognize success. Review milestone tasking with DDOE’s for timeliness and budget, draw lessons learned, and adjust accordingly. Manage systems engineering and agile adoption for MVPs. Define and manage KRAs and KPIs, monitor project KPIs for alignment with customer requirements.
· Growing Technical Capabilities (20%) Coordinate with the PMO and HTR to identify future technical skills and manage their growth or acquisition. Lead AI, ML, and data analytics integration into sensor systems for real-time processing, predictive maintenance, and autonomy. Oversee new technologies and methodologies for modular, scalable military systems and identify future core technologies for investment or training. Direct development of data analytics for real-time intelligence in training and testing. Manage relationships with third-party SMEs and their engagement with DDOE’s. Maintain a technical needs spreadsheet with a six-month planning horizon, updated monthly.
· Leading the department (15%) Represent engineering in Executive Team meetings, advocate for technical needs, assess risk, and propose solutions. Advance corporate objectives, communicate the vision, and represent the company to stakeholders. Provide an annual budget to the DOF and President for department needs. Support continuous improvement of processes and operations. Maintain accountability for departmental work, intervene proactively, and ensure excellence. Review and approve all engineering processes, programs, and procedures for effectiveness and efficiency.
· Leading the people (15%) Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with DDOE’s and select engineers to monitor progress and address long-range concerns. Manage staffing needs with HR and DDOE’s, handling hiring, training, and performance issues. Maintain and update career development plans and job descriptions for DDOE’s and ensure they do the same for their teams. Lead reviews and recommend promotions and merit increases. Promote continuous learning and professional development. Conduct quarterly skip interviews to follow up on issues identified in one-on-ones.
