Description The Director of Estimating oversees all estimating activities for AES Cleanroom Technology, ensuring accurate, competitive, and timely cost proposals for cleanroom construction projects. This role provides strategic leadership to the estimating team, drives process improvement, manages workload distribution, and collaborates with executive leadership to support growth, profitability, and operational excellence. The Director of Estimating ensures that estimates, proposals, and cost models reflect company standards, historical accuracy, market conditions, and best practices. Requirements Duties/Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and develop the estimating team, including Estimators and related support roles. Oversee the review and analysis of RFPs, assigning responsibilities, setting timelines, and ensuring compliance with deliverables. Review all major estimates and proposals for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with corporate strategy and margin expectations. Collaborate with corporate officers on contractual requirements, bid strategies, and pricing approaches. Support and lead complex quantity takeoffs, scope reviews, and bid evaluations for large or strategic projects. Support proposal pursuits and support proposal contributions around clarifications and assumptions, approach, schedule. Support and lead estimate and proposal presentations to clients. Ensure consistent interpretation and communication of plans, drawings, and specifications across estimating and construction teams. Facilitate turnover meetings with Engineering and Construction following project awards to ensure a smooth transition from estimate to execution. Oversee the management and improvement of the centralized cost estimating database and historical data library. Conduct post-project evaluations comparing estimated costs to actual performance, identifying variances and improvement opportunities. Implement best practices, tools, templates, and standardized procedures to increase estimating efficiency and reduce errors. Work with Construction and Engineering teams to resolve scope questions, change order pricing, and technical clarifications. Monitor workload, pipeline, and upcoming RFP schedules, and provide forecasting and resource planning recommendations. Maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive and reliable pricing. Ensure the department meets all internal deadlines and proposal submission requirements. Provide regular reporting to executive leadership on bid activity, win/loss performance, estimate accuracy, and market trends. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. Ten or more years of estimating experience in construction or engineering; cleanroom or controlled environment experience preferred. Three or more years of leadership or team management experience. Strong knowledge of architectural, mechanical HVAC, electrical, and general construction concepts. Experience with National Estimating Means standards preferred. Active involvement in a professional estimating or construction cost association is a plus. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and strategic thinking. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, lead teams, and meet deadlines. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and collaborate effectively across departments. Professional, customer-focused, and able to maintain strong internal and external relationships.
