Job Title: Director of Exceptional Learners School: High Point Academy Position Type: Full-Time Reports To:Managing Director License Requirement: Colorado Principal License Required Position Overview High Point Academy is seeking a Director of Exceptional Learners to lead and support programs that serve students with diverse learning needs in grades K–8. This position provides strategic leadership and coaching for the school's Learning Support Team, including Special Education (SPED), English Language Development (ELD), Gifted and Talented (GT), Section 504, and academic intervention services. The Director of Exceptional Learners ensures that systems, instruction, and supports are aligned to meet the needs of all learners while maintaining compliance with state and federal requirements. This role includes coaching staff, managing key support personnel, coordinating school-wide assessments, and leading professional learning to strengthen inclusive and effective practices across the school. The ideal candidate is a collaborative instructional leader who uses data to guide decision-making, builds strong systems for student support, and partners closely with teachers and staff to ensure every student has access to high-quality learning. Primary Responsibilities Leadership of Learning Support Programs Provide leadership and oversight for programs serving Exceptional Learners, Ensure systems are in place to identify, support, and monitor student progress across these programs. Monitor compliance with federal, state, and district regulations related to exceptional learner services. Coaching and Support for the Learning Support Team Coach and support staff who provide specialized services outside of Tier I and Tier II instruction. Support team members in implementing effective instructional practices, progress monitoring, and documentation. Facilitate regular team meetings focused on student data, instructional strategies, and program alignment. Staff Management Directly supervise and support the School Social Worker and School Psychologist. Provide guidance on student supports related to behavioral, emotional, and social needs. Partner with administration and support staff to ensure coordinated services for students. School Testing Coordination Serve as the School Testing Coordinator for state and school-wide assessments. Coordinate logistics, scheduling, and training related to testing administration. Ensure compliance with testing procedures and assessment security requirements. Professional Development Design and facilitate professional development for the Learning Support Team focused on best practices for supporting diverse learners. Provide school-wide professional development related to: Inclusive instructional practices Differentiation and accommodations MTSS and intervention strategies Supporting multilingual learners and gifted students Support teachers in implementing strategies that ensure access to grade-level curriculum for all students. Collaboration and Systems Alignment Partner with school leadership and grade-level teams to ensure alignment between general education instruction and specialized supports. Use student data to guide program improvements and support school-wide academic goals. Contribute to the development of systems that ensure all students receive the support needed to thrive. Qualifications Required Colorado Principal License Experience working with students with diverse learning needs with demonstrated results Strong understanding of needs of exceptional learners Experience leading or coaching educators. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Experience in school leadership or program management. Experience coordinating state assessments. Experience facilitating professional development for educators. Experience working in a K–8 school setting.
