Description
Description Location: Midland, TX or Southlake, TX Natural Gas Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: NGS) is a leading provider of small, medium, and large horsepower compression equipment to the oil and natural gas industry. Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Midland, TX, we focus primarily on the nonconventional oil and gas production sector across the United States. We manufacture, fabricate, and rent natural gas compressors—including our proprietary CiP brand, making us the only rental company in the industry with a fully owned and branded compressor line. With a total fleet horsepower exceeding 500,000 HP (units ranging from 50HP to 2500HP), NGS is trusted by top producers to keep their operations running efficiently. Publicly traded since 2002 and listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2008, we are proud to combine innovation, stability, and a deep commitment to our team and the energy industry. We are establishing a structured Field Service Technician Apprenticeship Program designed to train, advance, and retain skilled field service professionals within our company. The Director of the Apprenticeship Program will design, launch, and oversee this program from the ground up. This individual will leverage 10–15+ years of hands-on field service technician expertise to teach, coach, and mentor new technicians—providing them with a clear, step-by-step pathway from entry-level Apprentice to highly skilled Field Service Technician I. This role is ideal for a seasoned Field Service Technician or Compression Program Instructor who wishes to teach and lead the next generation of Field Service Professionals and develop a robust program for our company. Requirements Essential Job Functions Program Design & Development: Develop a structured multi-phase apprenticeship curriculum aimed at recruiting experienced large engine mechanics to transition to work in the field for Natural Gas Services Group; taking employees from an Apprentice to Journeyman level, and fully transitioning to an autonomous Field Service Technician I. Define training modules for safety, technical skills, troubleshooting, equipment, customer service, and field protocols. Establish skill assessments and certification standards for each advancement level. Partner with Operations leadership to align training goals with business needs and workforce planning. Training and Instruction: Deliver hands-on and classroom-style technical training to new and existing technicians. Demonstrate proper use of tools, equipment, diagnostic procedures, and repair best practices. Provide real-time coaching, performance evaluation, and productive feedback. Travel to field locations and training sites as needed. Career Pathway Development: Create clear career progression maps, including required competencies, timelines, and earning progression. Communicate career growth expectations and opportunities to apprentices and leadership. Support long-term retention by building culture, confidence, and professional pride in the trade. Program Management: Track apprentice progress, certifications, and performance benchmarks. Maintain documentation, training materials, safety procedures, and manuals. Collaborate with HR for hiring pipelines, performance reviews, and compensation progression. Provide leadership reporting on program success metrics (retention, advancement rates, skill performance, etc.). The above description is intended to describe the general content and requirements of this position. It is not an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications associated with the role. Duties and responsibilities may be subject to change based on the needs of the company. Why You’ll Love This Role If you’re passionate about developing people and building something that lasts, this is your chance to make a real impact. Strong communication and instructional abilities — able to teach complex skills clearly. Ability to design structure, systems, curriculum, and advancement standards. Comfortable stepping into a leadership role focused on teaching, coaching, and development rather than hands-on labor. Patient and encouraging leadership style with an investment in the success of others. Naturally organized and process oriented. Passionate about building a skilled workforce and company legacy.
