REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS HARD SKILLS

  • Expertise in Canadian accounting standards, requirements, and tax regulations
  • Strong financial and business analysis skills (budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis)
  • Experience preparing financial reports for executive leadership and external stakeholders
  • Advanced Excel and Power BI skills (financial modeling, pivot tables, scenario analysis)
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software
  • Cash flow and working capital management experience
  • Ability to think strategically and drive financial decision-making

SOFT SKILLS

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Director of Finance & Accounting is a strategic finance leader responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance with Canadian accounting standards, and driving business growth through financial and performance analysis. This role works closely with the General Manager, prepares financial and performance reports, and communicates key insights to managers, the board, banks, external accountants, and other stakeholders.
This is an excellent career opportunity for a finance professional ready to take on CFO-level responsibilities in a growing business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the General Manager to support business strategy and operational efficiency.
  • Prepare year-end accounts for external tax preparation
  • Analyze financial performance, track progress, and recommend improvements.
  • Communicate key financial insights to managers, the board of directors, banks, and other parties.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and requirements, tax regulations, and internal policies.
  • Lead and mentor a small accounting team, fostering a high-performance finance function.
  • Drive innovation and solutions-focused financial strategies, optimizing costs and cash flow.
