Supported by a team of over 130 full-time staff and over 200 volunteers, the independently governed and independently financed charity offers an extensive array of more than 60 programmes and initiatives that tackle a diverse range of social issues. These programmes cover areas such as health, employability, anti-social behaviour, crime, exploitation, education, dementia, and disability.
Everton in the Community stands firmly beside the most at-risk and most in need members of its local communities, but the needs of the city are ever-growing and ever-evolving.
About the opportunity: We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Finance and Governance to join our Senior Leadership Team at Everton in the Community.
This pivotal role involves providing financial leadership and governance oversight to secure the long-term financial sustainability of the charity.
You will lead the continuous development and implementation of robust financial frameworks, policies, and controls, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and governance requirements, as well as being the key liaison for external audits, statutory reporting, and financial communication with the Board of Trustees and other stakeholders.

OTHER KEY KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS WILL INCLUDE:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Good working knowledge of common ICT applications, with a clear understanding of the potential for ICT in enabling more innovative and effective approaches to the community organisation.
  • Proficient in excel with the ability to manipulate data etc.

    This position will be offered on a Permanent Contract, working 35 hours per week with the role being based across Everton in the Community Campus on Spellow Lane.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and maintaining a strategic financial framework to support Everton in the Community’s growth and sustainability.
  • Providing strategic advice on complex financial issues, business planning, and the management of charity funds.
  • Collaborating closely with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team on negotiations with funders and service providers, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
  • Leading the establishment and oversight of a trading subsidiary, ensuring full financial, legal, and regulatory compliance.
  • Fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation within the finance and governance team and across the organisation.
  • Participate actively in senior leadership decision-making and operational planning and overseeing financial appraisal of business cases and capital projects, challenging assumptions and ensuring sound financial decision-making.
