The Director of Finance provides strategic and operational leadership for the Finance function of the hotel, ensuring best-in-class financial governance, reporting accuracy, compliance, and performance optimization. This role maintains complete oversight of budgeting, planning, forecasting, controls, team leadership, and partnership with property leadership to drive results and deliver on ownership and brand expectations. The Director of Finance is responsible for analyzing and reporting the total financial performance of the hotel and collaborating across all departments to achieve financial goals, elevate operational discipline, and support long-term business sustainability. Reports To General Manager and dotted line report to Vice President of Finance Key Relationships Internal: General Manager, Executive Committee, Owners External: Hotel guests/visitors, vendors/suppliers, service providers, auditors, tax authorities, banking partners Essential Job Functions Financial Strategy & Performance Leadership * Develops, documents, and drives the Finance strategy of the hotel to optimize all aspects of performance, controls, and profitability. * Establishes, monitors, and maintains key financial and market indicators including EBITDA and other performance metrics aligned with ownership and Equinox Hotels standards. * Partners with Hotel leadership to support operational decision-making through financial insight, accountability, and disciplined reporting. * Prepares business forecasts and financial analysis and escalates risks, discrepancies, or deviations from budget to the General Manager as appropriate. Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning * Leads the annual budgeting process and ensures all targets and line items are achievable, understood, and maintained. * Ensures execution of the financial plan through proactive oversight, variance management, and structured follow-through with department leaders. * Works closely with all departments to ensure budget alignment and financial literacy across operational teams. Accounting, Controls & Audit Readiness * Develops, implements, and maintains internal controls and audit processes that ensure compliance, integrity, and safeguarding of hotel assets. * Oversees accounting operations to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness across all financial activity and reporting. * Maintains readiness for internal and external audits and ensures prompt resolution of audit findings. Reporting & Written Communication Excellence * Produces clear, accurate, and executive-level written deliverables, including: * Month-end reports and financial commentary * Weekly update reports summarizing performance, risks, and action plans * Forecast updates, trend analysis, and ownership reporting packages as needed * Ensures Finance communication is proactive, polished, and aligned with leadership expectations. * Establishes protocols for effective cross-functional communication and understanding of Finance processes and requirements throughout the hotel. Compliance, State & Local Tax Reporting * Oversees and ensures timely and accurate State and Local Tax reporting, including required filings and reconciliations. * Maintains awareness of compliance requirements impacting Finance operations and ensures the hotel remains in good standing with relevant agencies and authorities. * Coordinates as needed with external accountants, consultants, and regulatory entities to ensure proper reporting and documentation. Contracts, Licenses & Agreement Management * Maintains an organized system for tracking and safeguarding hotel financial contracts, licenses, and agreements, including: * Due dates and renewal requirements * Expiration dates * Key terms, obligations, and contract-specific details * Coordinates with hotel leadership and vendors to ensure timely renewals, amendments, and compliance with contractual obligations. Leadership & Talent Development * Hires, trains, and manages the performance of all Finance staff while building a culture of accountability, precision, and service excellence. * Directs team execution of strategy by ensuring performance aligns with hotel standards, operating procedures, and budget expectations. * Supports development of a strong Finance bench through coaching, training, and structured performance management. Stakeholder Relations * Develops, solicits, maintains, and nurtures key business relationships with vendors, partners, and external stakeholders. * Attends Executive Committee and leadership meetings, ensuring the Finance function is represented with authority, clarity, and operational relevance. General Standards * Complies with all Work Rules, Safety Standards, and Standards of Conduct as set forth in the Employee Handbook. * Works harmoniously and professionally with co-workers and supervisors. * Performs other duties as assigned at the discretion of management. Qualifications / Skills Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. Essential * Ability to communicate effectively in English (speak, read, write) with guests, co-workers, and management. * Excellent written communication skills, including executive-level reporting, financial commentary, and performance updates. * Diploma/Degree in Accounting or Hospitality Management with minor in Accounting. * Familiarity with financial systems including PMS, POS, SUN System, Birchstreet, and Payroll System(s). * Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines across reporting, compliance, and operational priorities. * Proven ability to lead cross-functional collaboration and influence outcomes through financial insight and operational partnership. Experience * Minimum of 5–10 years of experience in a senior finance role, preferably within luxury hospitality or a comparable service-driven environment.
