Position Rundle College is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, collaborative and flexible senior finance professional to join our team in the Business Office on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will cover a temporary leave of absence for the current Director of Finance, commencing in May, 2026. As Rundle prepares to expand its financial operations to include the finance work of a partner organization, we plan to retain the successful candidate in an ongoing senior finance role following the conclusion of the temporary leave, which is anticipated to be May 2027. This role is ideal for someone looking for long-term stability and growth. Job Purpose The Director of Finance at Rundle plays a critical leadership role in ensuring the financial health, operational integrity, and long-term sustainability of Rundle College Society. As the senior financial leader for all day-to-day school and business operations, the Director of Finance oversees the full cycle of accounting, payroll, treasury, budgeting, internal financial controls, regulatory compliance as well as budget preparation and financial reporting. This position acts as a strategic partner to the Head of Business, Head of School, Head of Academics, Head of Operations, and Board of Directors, providing high-quality financial analysis and insights to support operational and strategic decision-making across Rundle’s K–12 programs, camps, rentals, and childcare. The Director of Finance leads the Finance Department, ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of all RCS financial information, and drives continuous improvement in financial processes, systems, and internal controls. Duties and Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy * Lead long-range financial planning, tuition revenue modelling, and enrolment-based forecasting in partnership with the Head of Business. * Provide financial analysis to support organizational decision-making, operational planning, staffing models, and program development. Financial Operations & Reporting * Direct and supervise the work of the finance department, including accounting, treasury, payroll, financial reporting, and accounts payable/receivable. * Develop and maintain timely, accurate financial statements and internal management reports in accordance with accounting standards for non profit organizations. * Liaise with external auditors and coordinate all aspects of the annual audit. * Maintain the Society’s chart of accounts and ensure all accounts reflect accurate, complete balances. * Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes. Budgeting & Forecasting * Lead the full budgeting cycle, including development of annual operating and capital budgets in consultation with the Head of Business and Assistant Heads. * Develop rolling forecasts and variance analyses to inform leadership and support proactive financial management. * Monitor financial performance, identify risks and opportunities, and recommend mitigation strategies. * Prepare monthly financial reports, variance analyses, and strategic financial insights for internal budget owners and the Rundle College Society Board of Directors and its committees. Internal Controls, Compliance & Risk Management * Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls, financial policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity. * Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements, including CRA charity rules, payroll legislation, Education Act requirements, and employment law. * Ensure proper financial documentation to support Alberta Education reporting requirements, CAIS accreditation and other external reviews. Treasury & Cash Management * Manage all treasury functions, including cash flow forecasting, liquidity management, investments, and banking relationships. * Optimize working capital and ensure sufficient liquidity to support operational and capital priorities. * Support the Head of Business in enterprise-wide treasury planning that spans both RCS and RCEF. Systems, Processes & Efficiency * Lead continuous improvement across finance operations, ensuring processes are efficient, scalable, and aligned with best practices. * Provide financial leadership on system implementations and integrations, including Veracross transition. * Collaborate with IT to ensure financial systems and data are reliable, secure, and optimized. People Leadership * Lead, mentor, and develop finance team members, ensuring strong performance, professional growth, and clear accountability. * Build team capacity by improving workflow, strengthening controls, and ensuring appropriate staffing models are in place. Other Duties * Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of Business. Skills and Abilities * Strong financial leadership capabilities with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels. * Knowledge of Canadian not-for-profit accounting standards, charitable regulations, and relevant provincial legislation. * Strong analytical, modelling, and forecasting skills. * Demonstrated experience improving processes, systems, and internal controls. * Ability to work collaboratively with senior leaders, faculty, and administrative teams. * Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to multiple audiences. * Proficiency in Sage, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and financial reporting tools. * Qualifications * Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required. * Minimum 7-10 years of progressive senior financial management experience. * Experience in education, private schools, or complex not-for-profit environments is an asset.
