Description About us: People Serving People is the largest and most comprehensive emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness in Minnesota and a dedicated leader in homeless prevention. What do we need: This is a statewide role supporting communities throughout Minnesota. We welcome applicants from across the state, including those outside the Twin Cities metro area. While the position is largely remote, regular travel within Minnesota is required, along with periodic in-person work at our downtown Minneapolis location. Estimated work location mix: 70% remote and virtual 20% in-person work across Minnesota 10% in-person work at a PSP site in Minneapolis We strongly encourage candidates with lived experience of homelessness to apply. The Director of the Homeless Education Collaborative (HEC) leads statewide efforts to improve education outcomes for students experiencing homelessness in accordance with People Serving People’s mission, vision, and values through coalition building, data-driven decision making, capacity building, and centering the voices of those most impacted. The Director is an entrepreneurial and community leader with strong ties to the field of education and family/youth homelessness and a desire to advance equity and promote systems change. They contribute vision, inform strategy, and lead planning and implementation of programming that is culturally and trauma responsive, student-centered, strengths-based, and informed by a deep understanding of historical trauma as it relates to African American, American Indian, and Latin American communities. The Director of HEC represents People Serving People in a variety of collaboratives and coalitions to advance the field of education for children experiencing homelessness. Responsibilities: Responsible for People Serving People’s Homeless Education Collaborative initiative. Leads the MN Association for the Education of Homeless Children & Youth (MAEHCY) operations, including strategic efforts to expand and improve the support and training of homeless liaisons across the state. Partners with MN Department of Education (MDE) Homeless team and associated state departments working on efforts to improve education outcomes for students experiencing homelessness. Partners with stakeholders to create and successfully implement annual workplans to aid program transformation and continuous improvement. Including, but not limited to: - Hosting regional listening sessions. - Creating and facilitating an advisory committee of caregivers and students with lived experience of homelessness. - Collaborating with Continuums of Care, community partners, and advocates locally and nationally. Prospects for state, local, and other governmental funding opportunities, maximizes revenue capture, and completes required funding paperwork in a timely and accurate manner. Works directly with the Development Department to align education program development with funding development and provides accurate program information for grant submissions. Continually researches and shares learnings about culturally relevant, local and national sector trends, systems and policies around student homelessness. Stays current on homeless education outcomes at a policy, state and county, and programmatic level and consistently seeks ways to increase revenue and improve access to education. Represents People Serving People as a public face for the organization’s systems-level education work, which includes participation in presentations and/or presenting on areas of expertise and the program, participating on panels, intentional networking and relationship building with organizations and practitioners in the field, and participating on related working groups, committees, and/or boards outside of the organization. Participates in public policy and systems change issue identification and engages in coalitions and other spaces to advance policy around student homelessness education outcomes and access for families experiencing homelessness. Develops and maintains (both directly and indirectly) partnerships with community leaders, community organizations, governmental agencies, and others that can provide support to or enhance People Serving People’s educational programming efforts. Serves as a member of People Serving People’s Senior Leadership Team and participates in Board of Directors meetings as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Program Officer. Pay and Benefits: $91,522.00 to $109,827.00 Annually Full-Time, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with flexibility depending on job duties. Requirements BA/BS/MA in Education, Social Services 5 years of leadership experience at the intersection of education and homelessness Computer Skills: High competence with Microsoft Office applications required. Experience using virtual platforms to host meetings and trainings. Other Qualifications: 5 years’ experience in the sector of education and homelessness. Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and the impact of trauma on children who have experienced poverty and homelessness or are highly mobile. Familiarity with grants and experience seeking and using grants to fund priorities. Experience harvesting, evaluating, and implementing best practices within/across programs. Project management experience. Project management certification is highly desired but not essential. Able to pass motor vehicle records check and maintain a driver’s license. Able to complete overdose response training within one year. Familiar with the historical and present-day consequences of systemic racism and willing to apply an equity lens in decision-making. Training, public speaking, and/or facilitation experience and tools are highly desired. Public policy or systems change experience, orientation, or interest. Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution. Experience leading and/or managing change, particularly in direct service settings. Competencies: Student Homelessness – Deeply rooted in the field of education with an intimate and continuously nurtured knowledge of student homelessness; strong ties to student homelessness collaboratives and organizations, and ability to leverage those to strengthen the program.
