SUMMARY The Director of Human Resources maintains and enhances the organization's human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS HR Strategy & Leadership * Lead the U.S. HR function in developing and executing people strategies, policies, and programs aligned with Reliance’s business objectives and growth plans. * Establish a clear two-to-three-year HR roadmap that supports operational needs, acquisition growth, and scalability. * Provide strategic thought leadership across recruiting, performance, training, talent development, team effectiveness, and culture. Multi-Location Leadership & Business Partnership * Serve as a trusted advisor to Canadian leadership, U.S. General Managers, and field leaders on organizational design, workforce planning, performance, and employee matters. * Act as a unifying force across multiple locations while respecting legacy practices and local nuances. * Provide practical, solutions-oriented counsel in a decentralized, operator-heavy environment. Talent Acquisition, Development & Retention * Lead U.S. talent acquisition and retention strategies to attract, develop, and retain high-performing talent. * Partner with leadership to build people programs that address current capability needs and develop future skills. Change Management & Integration * Lead people-related change management for post-acquisition integration, including structure, talent placement, communication, and cultural alignment. * Adapt proven people practices from Canada while balancing standardization with U.S. operating realities. Total Rewards & HR Operations * Oversee U.S. compensation, benefits, and rewards programs, ensuring competitiveness, equity, and consistency. * Lead consolidation of benefits, retirement plans, and compensation approaches in partnership with vendors and Canadian HR leadership. Employee Relations, Compliance & Risk * Oversee employee relations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes. * Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across multiple states through clear, practical policies. * Partner closely with Canadian Health & Safety leadership and maintain solid working knowledge of H&S and Workers’ Comp HR Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement * Lead, develop, and scale the U.S. HR team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement. * Oversee the efficiency and effectiveness of the HR function and continuously improve systems, processes, and practices. QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required. Master’s degree strongly preferred. Professional HR certification (SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent) preferred. * 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources. * Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, and training and development. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills. * Demonstrated ability to lead and develop Human Resources staff members. * Demonstrated ability to serve as a successful participant on the executive management team that provides company leadership and direction. * Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with the company Board of Directors. * Excellent computer skills including MS Office. * General knowledge of various employment laws and practices. * Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other Human Resources programs. * Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality. * Excellent organizational skills.
