POSITION OVERVIEW

Tyrrell County Schools, a small rural district serving approximately 436 students in one PreK–6 elementary school, one 7–8 middle school, and one 9–13 early college high school, is seeking a skilled and dynamic educational leader to serve as Director of Human Resources, Testing & Accountability.
This position is responsible for directing and overseeing all aspects of human resources for the district — including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, licensure, employee relations, and compliance — as well as managing state and federal testing programs and ensuring accurate accountability reporting. The Director works closely with district and school administrators to ensure high-quality personnel practices, accurate student performance data, and compliance with state and federal guidelines.
This is a 12-month, full-time administrative position (salary based on the NC state salary schedule) reporting directly to the Superintendent.

Salary: NC State Salary Schedule (Administrative)

EDUCATION & LICENSURE

  • Master’s degree in Education, Human Resources, School Administration, or related field required.
  • Eligible for or hold a valid North Carolina Administrator’s License.
  • Additional certification in Human Resources or Testing/Accountability preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of successful experience in K–12 education, with leadership experience in HR, testing, or accountability.
  • Experience with North Carolina testing requirements and accountability reporting strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of NC DPI licensure processes and employment law.

  • Proficient in using data systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.

Responsibilities

TESTING & ACCOUNTABILITY MANAGEMENT

  • Serve as the district’s Testing Coordinator, overseeing the administration of all state-required assessments (e.g., EOG, EOC, ACT, WorkKeys) and any local benchmark or diagnostic assessments.
  • Ensure secure handling and storage of all testing materials and compliance with state testing guidelines.
  • Train school testing coordinators, administrators, and staff on assessment procedures and policies.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate with principals and instructional leaders to use data for school improvement planning.
  • Prepare and submit required state and federal accountability reports.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Stay informed on changes in education law, licensure requirements, HR best practices, and state accountability policies.
  • Participate in district strategic planning and serve on committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of Tyrrell County Schools.
