Description POSITION SUMMARY: As the Director of Human Resources at Wayside Waifs you will play a vital role in supporting our mission by overseeing all aspects of human resources management. You will be responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure the effective recruitment, retention, and development of our staff. This role requires a compassionate and empathetic individual dedicated to fostering a positive work environment and promoting a culture of teamwork and collaboration. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES, TASKS, DUTIES: Develops and implements recruitment/staffing plans in partnership with the leadership team, with emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging Serves as the ‘voice of the people’ in all leadership discussions Ensures all legal standards, such as I9 documents, are completed on time Conducts regular human resource audits to verify compliance with policies and procedures Manages workforce planning to build capability and optimize performance Develops, implements, and supports employee retention strategies Develops, implements, and oversees onboarding and orientation training for new employees Leads efforts around employee engagement and retention Coaches team managers to understand business information and the key performance levers Develop and implements recruitment/staffing plans in partnership with the leadership team Oversees the timely and accurate completion of all team member timesheets in HRIS system Ensures efficient and welcoming employee orientation experience Partners with the leadership team to develop and deploy an employee engagement action plan Oversees employee investigation and progressive discipline procedures Ensures all team member information is accurate and up to date within the HRIS system Ensures the timely processing of all unemployment claims In concert with other leadership, develops and implements the organization’s strategic activities related to human resource functions Manages team member suggestions and complaints Ensures timely completion of all mandatory/compliance-related training, e.g. Preventing Workplace Harassment Works with leadership to define management succession plan and development Partners with department leaders to optimize flexible labor scheduling Supports managers in completing employee investigations and corrective action processes Analyzes performance data across departments to look for operational efficiencies Shapes and manages change and improvement programs Delivers ongoing training and development to the team Partners with the location/partner HR team to develop joint strategies where appropriate Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off Other duties and responsibilities as assigned Requirements POSITION REQUIREMENTS & KEY COMPETENCIES: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field, or 7+ years in a Human Resources leadership role HRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred Technical Skills: Experience managing large-scale projects High level of computer literacy Passion for Wayside Waifs’ mission Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with staff and key stakeholders Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism Strong knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work in an office setting; travel when required in year-round weather conditions. Use of computer and keyboard; telephone; copy machines and desktop scanner. Potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Will frequently be working with and exposed to a variety of animals.
