Description
Cynch is a Series A company that has grown revenue 4x in the past year. We build unique applications of neuro-symbolic artificial intelligence to support the best accounting and tax professionals in the industry, helping them provide world-class financial services. We have a mix of remote and onsite employees, with offices in San Francisco, the South Bay, and the East Bay. We're looking for our Director of IT. You'll wrangle an admittedly fragmented set of systems and processes, then build something better: a streamlined IT practice built for security, ease, and durability. This is truly a hands-on role. You should be equally comfortable operating at both strategic and highly technical levels — designing and documenting the roadmap while also implementing the underlying systems. You will personally build what you design. The role is hybrid, based out of either our Pleasanton or Cupertino office. What You'll Do Build the IT function Bring together IT across the company under a single function Establish clear ownership and accountability for IT across the company Reduce shadow IT and standardize tools and processes Decide how IT should scale (internal hires, MSPs, or a hybrid approach) Hire and manage IT staff as the company grows Define and own the company's IT roadmap Modernize technical infrastructure Consolidate and manage our identity platform Implement and manage device management for both Mac and Windows environments Manage desktop, SaaS, and virtual apps (on Azure) Wrangle and organize vendors Improve onboarding, offboarding, and employee IT experience Ensure reliable IT support across remote and office environments Security and compliance Improve identity, access management, and endpoint security Implement practical security controls and policies Partner with engineering and leadership on security practices Prepare the company for SOC2 About you ~10+ years of IT experience, 3 years management experience, ideally in a startup or high-growth company Experience implementing identity platforms such as JumpCloud, Okta, Azure AD, or Google Workspace Experience managing Mac and Windows fleets with MDM tools such as Jamf, Kandji, or Intune Expertise in deploying and managing SSO, MFA, SCIM provisioning, RBAC, and access lifecycle management Experience preparing a company for SOC2 Experience managing SaaS systems, vendors, and reducing shadow IT Ability to automate workflows and integrations Demonstrated ability to bring order to fragmented, fast-moving environments by standardizing systems, documenting practices, and building durable IT infrastructure across multiple offices. What Success Looks Like Within your first 6 months you will have: Completed gap analysis for SOC2 readiness Chosen and implemented a unified identity platform across the company Completed documentation of IT onboarding and offboarding for remote, onsite, and hybrid employees Implemented automated SCIM provisioning Reduced shadow IT by auditing existing SaaS tools and establishing a clear approval and procurement process Established additional priorities defined with executive leadership. Work Model: onsite initially, then ~3 days/week + as-needed, driven by both tax season and technical demands. California salary range: $160k - $185k
Responsibilities
The Director of IT will be responsible for building and streamlining the entire IT function, establishing clear ownership, reducing shadow IT, and defining the company's IT roadmap. This includes modernizing infrastructure, managing identity platforms, implementing device management for Mac/Windows, and ensuring reliable support across all work environments.
