About Cure HHT Cure HHT is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT). We partner with clinicians, researchers, centers of excellence, and the patient community to advance care, awareness, and research. Position Summary The Director of Major Gifts will serve as Cure HHT’s foundational fundraising leader, responsible for building and executing a comprehensive major gifts program. As the inaugural development hire, this position will continue to shape the systems, culture, and strategy that fuel Cure HHT’s next stage of philanthropic growth—driving transformative investment in our mission to Find, Treat, and Cure HHT. This role combines strategic leadership and direct frontline fundraising. The Director will manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects ($10,000+), create the infrastructure for scalable fundraising, and partner with executive leadership, Board members, and volunteers to build a sustainable culture of philanthropy across the organization. Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Fundraising Leadership Partner with the COO and CEO to design and implement a major gifts strategy aligned with Cure HHT’s strategic plan and top priorities. Create a multi-year fundraising roadmap that includes major gifts, leadership annual giving, and campaign readiness. In collaboration with leadership, develop fundraising goals, case statements, and prospect strategies. Establish key performance metrics, reporting, and dashboards to track progress and inform leadership decisions. 2. Donor Portfolio Development & Management Lead the creation of a major gifts pipeline leveraging data, networks, and prospect research tools. Build and manage a portfolio of individual and foundation prospects with the capacity to give $10,000+. Conduct personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Develop proposals and materials that translate Cure HHT’s awareness, research, clinical access to care, and advocacy impact into compelling donor opportunities. Close gifts by securing gift decisions in a timely manner. Oversight of Annual Appeals and Fundraising Events targeting donors up to $10K. 3. Infrastructure & Systems Building Create standardized templates, donor correspondence, and stewardship reports to professionalize the development function. Collaborate with Finance to align gift documentation, pledge tracking, and reporting. Identify and manage vendors, consultants, or freelancers as needed (e.g., grant writers, designers, researchers). 4. Cross-Organizational Collaboration Partner with Marketing & Communications to craft donor-centered storytelling and campaign collateral. Coordinate with Programs and Research teams to translate scientific progress and patient impact into fundable initiatives. Engage with the Board of Directors, Scientific Advisory Board, and Centers of Excellence to build relationships with potential donors and champions. 5. Donor Stewardship & Relationship Management Develop a tiered stewardship strategy to ensure donors receive meaningful, timely, and personalized acknowledgment. Produce impact reports, recognition opportunities, and engagement touch points that deepen donor loyalty. Support leadership and Board members in preparing for donor meetings and follow-up actions. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred. 7–10 years of progressive fundraising experience, including at least 3 years in major gifts. Demonstrated success in securing five- and six-figure gifts from individuals and foundations. Experience building or scaling fundraising programs—ideally in a health, science, or rare-disease environment. Skills & Competencies Strategic, entrepreneurial thinker with the ability to build systems from the ground up. Exceptional relationship-building, storytelling, and presentation skills. Track record and evidence of success in closing major gifts at levels between $10K and $1M Self-motivated and comfortable operating independently while collaborating cross-functionally. Data-informed and organized; proficient in Salesforce NPSP or comparable CRM. Strong project management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities. Passion for Cure HHT’s mission and comfort working in a lean, fast-moving nonprofit. Performance Metrics Growth in major gift revenue and number of active prospects. Development of foundational fundraising systems, policies, and tools. Frequency and quality of donor engagement activities. Cross-team collaboration and contribution to campaign readiness.
