Position Summary  The Director of Marketing & Communications will serve as a senior leadership role responsible for architecting the institutional narrative and public positioning of the AZJHS and the forthcoming HFHEC. Serving as a key advisor to the Executive Director, this role will translate complex archival content and survivor testimonies into compelling modern narratives that drive momentum around pre-opening milestones, visitor attendance, donor investment, and statewide educational impact. Working in close partnership with the Executive Director and the leadership team, this role will shape the public voice of the organization, ensuring that messaging, storytelling, and branding align with institutional priorities, fundraising goals, and community impact milestones.       Primary Responsibilities  Strategic Narrative and Brand Positioning:  * Mission Stewardship: Define, maintain, and protect the brand voice and identity, ensuring organizational mission and vision are aligned across all internal and external communications and media  * Executive Counsel: Serve as a strategic counselor to the Executive Director and leadership team, preparing for high-stakes presentations, events, and media engagements  * Complex Storytelling: Translating historical data and educational outcomes into clear narratives, next steps, and calls-to-action that resonate with diverse audiences  * Strategic Planning: Developing and executing a strategic vision for brand positioning and market entry, including building and sustaining community engagement, leveraging construction and development milestones, and creating momentum around the opening of the HFHEC  Philanthropic and Stakeholder Engagement:  * Growth Support: Partnering with the Director of Development to support a multi-million-dollar philanthropic portfolio, including donor communications and recognition, reporting, and multi-media partnership opportunities   * Campaign Support: Developing campaign materials and supporting the launch and sustainability of the community campaign     Public Relations & External Communications:  * Media Relations: Leading the press strategy and response, cultivating credibility in the media to be a reputable source for Holocaust, anti-Semitism, and genocide news and information, and building a strong media presence in the Phoenix MSA  * Coalition Building: Liaising with community stakeholders, influencers, public relations firms, building partnerships with business leaders and nonprofit partners to advance the Center’s reach, and building and sustaining grassroots support  Content & Digital Strategy:  * Omnichannel Strategy: Leading the strategy and execution of digital, print, donor-based and event-based campaigns for construction and development milestones, narrative-building, and introducing the Education Center to the community  * Storytelling: Working with and through the community and the executive team to capture and disseminate impact stories from a diverse group of stakeholders  * Digital Engagement Campaigns: Helming the development and execution of digital campaigns, to include organic and paid social media, email marketing, search advertising, display ads, and other content and platforms as needed  Operations & Team Leadership:  * Budget and Plan Development: Develop budget, milestones, and the overall vision of the marketing and communications plan with input from the Executive Director, Board, and stakeholders  * Brand Guidance: Maintaining brand standards and guidelines, and acting as a steward for both the AZJHS and HFHEC brands  * Team Leadership: Managing public relations and marketing contractors, and liaising with the AZJHS and HFHEC teams for marketing and communications needs  * Organizational Spokesperson: Representing both organizations to the media and stakeholders and preparing and updating crisis management and messaging plans to protect institutional reputation  Qualifications  * At least 5-8+ years experience in marketing, communications, public affairs, or external relations, with experience leading brand strategy efforts and large-scale communications and marketing plans; nonprofit or mission-driven experience preferred   * Track record of supporting large-scale fundraising efforts and donor management efforts   * Strategic, agile thinker with a track record of executing large-scale community initiatives  * Strong written and verbal communication and storytelling skills  * Ability to work with executive leadership and volunteer boards, councils, and committees, as well as a diverse group of community stakeholders  Education & Experience  * Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field required  * Master’s degree preferred, particularly in Communications, Nonprofit Management, Museum Studies, or Business Administration  * Demonstrated experience working in a mission-driven, cultural, educational, or nonprofit organization strongly preferred  * Familiarity with Holocaust education, Jewish history, museum environments, or social impact storytelling is highly desirable  * Experience translating complex or sensitive subject matter into clear, compelling public messaging  * Commitment to the mission of Holocaust education and demonstrated ability to communicate complex historical content with accuracy, sensitivity, and impact
