Maryland SPCA Job Description   Job title: Director of Marketing and Communications Reports to: Executive Director Salary range: $75,000-$85,000 FLSA status: Exempt Date created: 6/12/2026   Position Summary: The Director of MarCom is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of the Organization’s marketing, communications, and public relations strategies and activities, in order to advance individual program initiatives and position Maryland SPCA as a shelter of choice in the Baltimore Metro Area. This position requires the exceptional ability to identify and craft campaigns around individual programs and projects while ensuring consistency of messaging and strategic alignment with MD SPCA’s brand and mission.  They will lead the marketing of MD SPCA programs and services, including creating and implementing an annual marketing plan that achieves organizational goals and drives programmatic and revenue growth. The Director of MarCom will assume primary responsibility for ensuring the effective and timely delivery of all marketing and branding initiatives and processes. The Director of MarCom serves as the key point of contact for all major internal and external marketing and communications relationships. They will work closely with senior staff and support all departments of MD SPCA.  They will manage and motivate our small communications team as both a leader and an individual contributor. The position reports to the Executive Director.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Create and lead marketing and communications strategy aligned with the MD SPCA mission. * Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual marketing and communications plan and calendar that encompasses social media, print and digital content, and email marketing. * Craft compelling content around the unique elements of each MD SPCA program while ensuring consistency of messaging and strategic alignment with brand and mission. * Elevate the MD SPCA’s reputation and visibility in local, regional, and statewide communities. * Manage communications team and collaborate with other directors, staff, and other constituents of the MD SPCA community to promote the Organization from diverse perspectives using multiple platforms. * Maintain website to ensure that new and consistent information is available to stakeholders. * Set creative direction and lead the development, design, distribution, and maintenance of high-quality print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to annual report, brochures, presentations, newsletters, and videos. * Ensure accuracy and quality standards in all collateral. * Track and evaluate engagement across all communications initiatives and oversee the strategic and creative direction of the Organization’s website and social media platforms. * Develop and manage partnerships that support organizational marketing and fundraising goals. * Steward brand identity and ensure that it, along with marketing and communications strategy, are infused in all organizational efforts.   * Identify trends, monitor current events and influencers to anticipate opportunities for MD SPCA to engage in and/or lead the conversation on animal welfare related topics. * Develop and maintain close partnerships with members of the media and serve as their primary spokesperson. * Guide the strategy on press outreach, including messaging in press releases, creation of press kits and materials, interview preparation, and responses to media requests. * Collaborate with and advise the Organization on issues of crisis management messaging. * Serve as a primary spokesperson and represent the MD SPCA at public events. Qualifications: * 5+ years of experience in marketing, communications, media relations, and branding, preferably for a non-profit organization. * 3+ years’ experience supervising staff and motivating, guiding, and supporting a team. * Desire and ability to work within a staff culture that is team-oriented and feedback-driven. * Ability to excel at creating marketing strategy and vision and seeing it through to successful execution. * Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships across multiple departments. * Ability to plan and manage at both strategic and operational levels. * Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, and presentation) * Candidates must be able to manage multiple projects with varied timelines, sometimes on tight deadlines. * Have excellent judgment and can act decisively in situations requiring quick but thorough analysis and decision-making. * Deep knowledge of the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors. * Strong collaboration skills and experience engaging stakeholders with communications.
