Description SUMMARY: Santa Fe Recovery Center is seeking an experienced, strategic, and mission-driven Director of Marketing & Communications to lead all marketing, branding, public relations, community engagement, and internal communications efforts across the state. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director will develop and execute an integrated marketing and communications strategy that strengthens SFRC’s brand, advances awareness of services, deepens community partnerships, supports fundraising and advocacy, and drives measurable impact for clients, staff, and partners. This role will manage a cross-functional marketing team, oversee external vendors and agencies, and serve as a senior spokesperson and advisor to executive leadership and the Board. REPORTING: Chief Operating Officer POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Set vision and strategy: · Develop and lead a comprehensive, multi-channel marketing and communications strategy aligned to SFRC’s strategic goals and statewide growth objectives. · Translate organizational priorities into annual plans, measurable objectives, budgets, and KPIs. Brand leadership and stewardship · Own SFRC’s brand positioning, messaging framework, visual identity, and brand governance across programs, sites, and partner communications. · Ensure consistent brand standards and quality across all materials and channels. Media, public relations & crisis communications · Serve as primary senior media contact and strategic advisor on high-profile media, reputational, and crisis communications. · Oversee press releases, media relations, speaking engagements, and coordination of media visits in partnership with leadership. Community engagement, partnerships & advocacy · Build and sustain strategic partnerships with community organizations, referral networks, government partners, and donor/stakeholder groups statewide. · Represent SFRC at statewide forums and key events; identify opportunities to raise visibility and influence policy/advocacy efforts related to SUD recovery, and more broadly behavioral health and integrated health. Content, digital & communications channels · Direct development and distribution of external communications (website, social media, email, advertising, collateral, presentations) and oversee content strategy, SEO, and digital analytics. · Ensure marketing supports fundraising, program enrollment, volunteer recruitment, and partnership development. Events & fundraising support · Lead strategy and oversight for major statewide events (including the annual Recovery Santa Fe), sponsorship cultivation, donor engagement communications, and marketing support for capital campaigns and special events. Internal communications & culture · Develop internal communication strategy to engage staff, support leadership messaging, and reinforce organizational culture. · Deliver executive communications, all-staff updates, newsletters, and leadership presentations; measure and optimize internal engagement. Measurement, analytics & ROI · Define and track KPIs and analytics for marketing, media, community engagement, events, and fundraising support; provide monthly and executive-level reporting on impact and ROI. · Use data to continuously optimize strategy and allocate resources effectively. Team leadership & vendor management · Recruit, mentor, and manage direct reports (e.g., marketing managers, content specialists, digital specialists, contractors), set performance objectives, and foster professional development. · Oversee and evaluate agencies, vendors, and consultants; manage contracts and deliverables. Budgeting & compliance · Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensure cost-effective allocation of resources, and collaborate with finance reporting. · Ensure compliance with privacy, regulatory, and organizational policies in communications and outreach activities. Governance & board support · Prepare and present communications updates and performance reports to executive leadership and the Board as required. Other responsibilities · Perform other duties as assigned by the COO or CEO. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: · Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, public relations, or related field required; Master’s degree or advanced certification preferred. · 7+ years of progressive marketing and communications experience with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role overseeing teams and budgets. · Proven track record in brand strategy, digital marketing, media relations, content strategy, and event marketing—preferably in nonprofit, behavioral health, healthcare, or social services sectors. · Demonstrated experience in developing measurable communications strategies and using analytics to guide decisions. · Strong leadership, people management, and project management skills; experience managing external agencies and vendors. · Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; experience preparing executive-level communications and public speaking. · Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; familiarity with CRM/email platforms, web CMS, social management, analytics tools (Google Analytics, social insights), and basic SEO best practices. Preferred Qualifications · Experience working with substance use disorder (SUD) programs, recovery organizations, or behavioral health systems. · Fundraising/advancement marketing experience, including sponsorship development and donor communications. · Master’s degree in relevant field. Required Organizational & Regulatory Requirements · Recovering alcoholic/addict must have successfully maintained a 2-year period of abstinence from alcohol or drugs. (Retain this requirement only if it remains organizational policy.) · Must be over 21 years of age. · Must have and maintain a current, valid NM driver’s license, a clean driving record, and auto insurance. · Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a State of New Mexico Criminal Records Clearance (DOH CRC). · Must be willing to travel statewide and represent SFRC at events and meetings.
