Description

The Steel Valley Accelerator (SVA), aka the Steel Valley Enterprise Zone (SVEZ), is seeking a dynamic Director of Marketing & Community Engagement to lead the organization’s marketing, branding, and events. This role is responsible for amplifying SVA’s presence across digital and physical spaces, building meaningful connections with businesses, residents, and visitors, and showcasing the Steel Valley as a vibrant place to live, work, and invest.
The Director of Marketing & Community Engagement will work closely with the Executive Director to shape and execute the SVA’s marketing, branding, and community engagement strategy. This position combines creativity, strategy, and execution - driving awareness through compelling campaigns, activating the community through events, and ensuring SVA is a trusted resource and connector for small businesses and local stakeholders.

EXPERIENCE & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field; equivalent work experience considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, or event planning; nonprofit and/or community development experience preferred.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple campaigns and events simultaneously.
  • Excellent design and writing skills, with a track record of creating engaging social media content (static and video).
  • Proficiency with digital marketing tools, including Google Workspace, Google Analytics, Wordpress, Canva, and email platforms; experience with database management a plus.
  • Creativity and vision for storytelling that resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of the Steel Valley community and its small business ecosystem highly desirable.
  • Availability for regular evening and weekend events.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement multi-channel marketing and communications strategies to increase awareness of the Steel Valley Accelerator and its programs.
  • Create and manage content across digital platforms (social media, email, website, blog) that drives engagement, visibility, and community pride.
  • Produce and distribute branded marketing materials (print and digital), including newsletters, promotional collateral, and campaign assets.
  • Manage and grow SVA’s social media presence with a focus on storytelling, video, and campaigns that highlight local businesses and community assets.
  • Oversee the design, production, and distribution of the Steel Valley Business Directory & Map, as well as Community Events Calendar that pulls in all of the events happening across the Steel Valley.
