Position Overview
The Director of Marketing is a senior strategic leader responsible for shaping and executing a multi-channel, integrated marketing and communications strategy that elevates the MNjcc’s brand, drives community engagement, and supports programmatic and revenue objectives across all departments.
This role is ideal for a multi-disciplinary marketing professional. Someone who is a visionary strategist and a practical executor, who can navigate complexity and change with grace, and who brings a growth mindset to their leadership. You will oversee all aspects of marketing and communications, including brand management, digital and print content, member and donor communications, advertising, social media, graphic design, public relations, and website oversight.
Reporting to the Chief Development and Marketing Officer (CDMO), you will lead a team of skilled staff and freelancers and collaborate closely with leadership across programming, development, fitness, early childhood education, arts, and community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of an Annual Integrated Marketing and Communications Plan aligned with the MNjcc’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.
  • Serve as the organization’s brand steward, ensuring a cohesive, consistent, and compelling voice and visual identity across all communications.
  • Act as a key advisor to the CDMO and Executive Leadership Team on marketing trends, audience engagement, public perception, and crisis communication.
  • Establish clear KPIs and performance metrics to monitor the impact of marketing efforts and inform data-driven decisions.

Marketing & Communications Operations

  • Oversee the day-to-day execution of all marketing initiatives across:

o Digital marketing (social media, paid ads, SEO, email marketing)
o Content strategy and storytelling (blogs, member spotlights, success stories, impact reports)
o Print and promotional materials (seasonal program guides, signage, posters, brochures)
o Website oversight (site structure, content updates, UX improvements)

o Internal communications (staff updates, info desk toolkits, cross-departmental alignment)

  • Lead crisis and issue-based communications in partnership with the CDMO and Executive Team.
  • Direct and manage the MNjcc’s bi-weekly member e-newsletter, seasonal print program guides, and regular content across social media channels.
  • Oversee PR and media relations in collaboration with external consultants as needed.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise and mentor a cross-functional Marketing team, currently including:

o Digital marketing Manager
o Senior Graphic Designer

o Part-time/freelance designers and writers

  • Foster a team culture of creativity, accountability, and professional development.
  • Work closely with department heads (Programming, Fitness, ECE, Theatre, Development) to understand their objectives and translate them into high-impact campaigns and content.
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration and integration to ensure marketing efforts support both organizational growth and community engagement.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including program staff, donors, partners, and members.
  • Act as a key liaison to multiple community-based initiatives and collaborations.
  • Contribute to community outreach strategies, inclusive representation, and accessible communication practices.

Budgeting & Performance Management

  • Manage the annual marketing and communications budget with attention to ROI, efficiency, and resource planning.
  • Ensure effective procurement, vendor relationships, media buys, and reporting.
  • Track analytics and produce regular reports on campaign performance, engagement metrics, and areas for optimization.

Qualifications & Competencies
Required:
o Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, or brand strategy roles, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or supervisory position
o Demonstrated experience developing and executing complex, multi-channel marketing plans
o Proven success in managing teams and leading collaborative, cross-functional projects
o Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills

o Proficiency in marketing platforms and tools, including:

  • Email marketing (WIX, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or equivalent)
  • CMS/website management (WIX, WordPress)
  • Social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube)
  • Analytics and reporting tools (Google Analytics, Meta Ads Manager)
  • Graphic design oversight (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)

Preferred Assets

  • Experience in community-based, cultural, or non-profit organizations
  • Understanding of the Jewish community and/or interfaith programming contexts
  • Familiarity with AODA standards
  • Knowledge of downtown Toronto’s cultural community landscape and downtown demographics

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Full-time (37.5 hours/week); 4 days in office, per week
  • Occasional evening/weekend availability required for emergency digital communications (e.g., weather-related closures).

· Annual salary range: $85,000 - $100,000 (commensurate with experience)
