QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field or equivalent education required
  • Master’s degree required
  • Formal training or certification in physician recruitment, medical staff administration, or leadership development
  • Experience working with professional staff structures in Ontario hospitals or similar health systems
  • Demonstrated ability to translate strategic goals into measurable outcomes for recruitment, retention, and engagement

SKILL, ABILITY AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years recent experience in leadership required
  • Recent experience in a health care/hospital setting preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in day-to-day problem solving, including patient safety, staffing, complaint resolution and conflict resolution required
  • Experience managing projects and meeting timelines preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary and interprofessional collaborative care team required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to inspire teamwork required
Responsibilities

Bluewater Health is seeking a dynamic and engaging leader to join our Medical Affairs team. This senior role plays a pivotal part in supporting and advancing the work of our professional staff — including physicians, nurse practitioners, and midwives — who hold privileges to practise at our hospital. Reporting to the Chief of Staff/VP Medical Affairs, you will lead initiatives to recruit, retain, and engage top-calibre talent while ensuring compliance, fostering collaboration, and contributing to the strategic goals of the organization.

Duties include:

  • Lead the process improvement plan and implementation for the Bluewater Health Medical Affairs department, taking into account best practices and innovative opportunities as they relate to a collaborative model of care
  • Continually advance the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the program through quality improvement initiatives, benchmarking, implementation of clinical and management information systems, introduction of new technology, and work redesign
  • Work with the Chief of Staff in achieving strategic goals for the Board of Directors
  • Support the Chief of Staff in ensuring that the work of Professional Staff is in compliance with the Public Hospitals Act, regulations, Professional Staff Bylaws, and hospital policies
  • Oversee recruitment and retention of physicians and prepare an annual medical human resource plan to meet the needs of the hospital and community
  • Work with the Chief of Staff to liaise with Professional Staff, Medical Directors/Chiefs, educational institutions, relevant government agencies, and community health providers and stakeholders
  • Oversee learners, including medical students/residents, and liaise with medical schools, such as Western University
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief of Staff/VP Medical Affairs
