POSITION SUMMARY: Organizes, directs, coordinates and evaluates the agency for accreditation with JCAHO and other accrediting bodies.  Also oversees the nursing service and nursing education programs of this Agency, and other related work.   DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Works with managerial staff in overseeing the process of becoming JCAHO accredited. 2. Organizes and coordinates meetings concerning compliance with JCAHO and OPR standards. 3. Develops timelines for compliance with standards and works with the AVP of Clinical Operations to assure systems are put in place. 4. Interacts, communicates, and collaborates with network physicians, agency leaders, and other staff regarding clinical care and services. 5. Coordinates on-site visits, and shares tools, information, and guidelines related to quality, cost-effective health care delivery and quality of care.  6. Regularly has managerial dialogue to review care coordination issues, develops collaborative intervention plans and shares ideas about network management issues. 7. Develops, establishes and implements the philosophy, objectives, policies and standards of the nursing staff in a primary care and family planning oriented agency. 8. Organizes the nursing staff and delineates authority, including functional responsibilities and lines of communication.  Coordinates functions of the nursing staff with other disciplines, collaborates with the administrative staff and other agency staff and representatives of allied groups in planning services. 9. Oversees staffing requirements and develops procedures to maintain an adequate and competent nursing staff. 10. Oversees a system of continuing evaluation of nursing service provided for patients. 11. Maintains up-to-date policy procedure manuals for all nursing staff and evaluates its effectiveness. 12. Directs the development and implementation of orientation, training and continuing education programs for nursing personnel. 13. Works creatively in initiating and participating in studies and research projects and utilizing findings in improvements of patient care and administrative services. 14. Oversees the use of clinical facilities by colleges and other agencies for nursing education purposes. 15. Participates in the development of policies and health programs for the agency programs involving the nursing staff. 16. Conducts and chairs staff meetings and working committees with all levels of nursing. 17. Oversees with the Center Directors and other agency personnel the audit function, as it relates to service delivery, clinical and nursing. 18. Participates in determining conditions, resources and policies essential to delivery of nursing care services. 19. Interprets philosophy and objectives of services to staff members and other groups. 20. Supervises the Associate Director of Nursing in maintenance of a system of peer review for nursing personnel and allied nursing personnel. 21. Oversees the Associate Nursing Director in the development and maintenance of a clinic inventory system that is effective and efficient.  22. Facilitates related services for health center patients and CHN staff as appropriate, with respect to their confidentiality and privacy. 23. Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences.  24. Performs other related duties, as assigned.   Certificate/License required: * Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State * Current C.P.R. certificate or acceptance to attend a C.P.R. training course   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:   * Excellent verbal and written communications skills * Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development. * Interest and knowledge of current practices in the broad field of reproductive management. * Ability to relate comfortably and professionally to all clients/patients in discussing their needs for family planning information. * Ability to work both independently and cooperatively to meet the objectives of the program.  * Must be able to organize own work and supervise both professionals and non-professionals and to relate to total service. * At least five (5) years experience in supervisory capacity or equivalent. * Interest in and conviction of purpose and aims for all programs in the Agency. * Respect for the rights of individuals to make their own decisions about family planning. * Ability to communicate easily and display a cordial manner towards individuals from a variety of socio-economic, cultural and religious backgrounds.
