Description Under the supervision of the Administrator, the Director of Nursing oversees the overall operations of the Nursing Department in accordance with company policies, standards of nursing practice, and applicable government regulations, ensuring the delivery of high-quality resident care in an efficient and effective manner. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborates with the Administrator, consultants, and facility staff to plan, coordinate, and oversee all aspects of nursing services, including interdisciplinary integration. Establishes priorities and job assignments; monitors departmental activities; communicates policies; evaluates performance; provides feedback; and coaches, counsels, redirects, and disciplines staff as necessary. Maintains departmental records, manages budgets and supplies, and functions as the senior department head. Ensures that all equipment and work areas are clean, safe, and orderly, and that hazardous conditions are promptly addressed. Enforces compliance with universal precautions, infection control, isolation procedures, fire safety, and sanitation standards. Conducts regular rounds to monitor resident activity; assesses residents’ physical and psychosocial status; and reviews care delivery and documentation to ensure nursing services are provided in accordance with physician orders, individualized care plans, established standards, and facility policies. Oversees resident admissions, transfers, and discharges; communicates resident status with residents, families, and management; and personally participates in resident assessment and care delivery when necessary. Ensures staff understanding of and compliance with all regulations governing residents’ rights. Ensures compliance with all applicable state, federal, and company quality assurance standards. Oversees employee relations and staffing, supports recruitment efforts, promotes high morale, and implements strategies to improve staff retention. Ensures effective communication, timely problem resolution, positive supervisory practices, and a supportive work environment. Maintains appropriate staffing levels through effective recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and ongoing staff education. Develops and maintains positive relationships on behalf of the organization with government regulators, residents’ families, the local healthcare community, and the community at large. Supervises, conducts, and participates in departmental and facility-wide education programs and staff meetings. Requirements Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing and currently licensed by the State. Must have related experience at a level necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Must be able to interact positively with residents, families, and regulatory agencies, and work collaboratively with employees at all levels. Must be able to maintain consistent attendance and be willing to work long or irregular hours, often under pressure. Must comply with all local health regulations and successfully complete a post-offer health assessment. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the use of mechanical devices): Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and community agencies. Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, reaching, bending, stretching, pulling, and lifting. Adequate fine and gross motor coordination to carry out required tasks. Work Environment: Long-term care facility setting. Exposure to residents with varying levels of care needs. May include evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
