This position is responsible for oversight, coordination, monitoring and ensuring the general well-being of the residents through the delivery of high-quality nursing services in a manner that is consistent with the ASBN Nurse Practice Act, strict code of ethics and ARNA core values with constant incorporation of standards set forth by evidence-based practice.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Interviews and hires viable nursing candidates. * Develops new, updates current, reviews and revises written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel. * Conducts/schedules daily rounds to see all residents, methods for coordination of nursing service with other resident services, for recommending the number of levels of nursing personnel to be employed to meet the needs of the residents, student learners and staff development. * Assists Administrator with day-to-day operations in healthcare * Works with Administrator to ensure appropriate financial analysis methods are being used when making decisions about policies, programs and services while ensuring that programs are managed within current and projected budgets. * Evaluates, interprets and gives general oversight of policies and procedures pertaining to nursing care.  Completes direct-care staff annual evaluations and provides updated information to HR Department.  Participates in staff disciplinary proceedings, when needed. * Works with ADON and Medical Records Nurse to ensure appropriate nursing documentation standards, reports, logs pertaining to resident health status and in response to health care interventions are in the correct format and are being adhered to at all times. * Works with Infection Preventionist, when necessary, to ensure control of communicable diseases through assessment, identification, reporting and implementation of appropriate protective and preventative measures campus-wide. * Participates with interdisciplinary team in the preparation, coordination and implementation of health care services (direct-care and care plan). * Participates in ongoing safety and quality assurance through investigation of incidents, safety hazards and medication discrepancies. * Develops, reviews, maintains and implements nursing policies and procedures in accordance with Best Practice, regulatory standards set forth by any and all governing bodies, facility philosophy and overall operational policies in compliance with state and federal laws. * Participates in weekly Utilization Review meetings and bi-weekly Transitions meetings. * Communicates directly with residents, families, medical and nursing staff, interdisciplinary team members, and department heads to coordinate care and services as it relates to nursing while also engaging in strategies to maintain optimal health for BTV campus-wide. * Communicates directly with nursing staff to coach, nurture, correct and advise when needed.  * Participates in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) meetings, uses information gathered to steer workflow and develops strategies for continuous quality improvement. * Uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in potentially sensitive or emotionally charged situations with and/or between direct-care staff members. * Adheres to safety and infection control policies and procedures and assists with promoting education and compliance amongst direct-care staff. * In partnership with the Administrator and the ADON, review and respond to all health related incident reports, administrative concerns, reportable allegations and investigative findings. * Make evidence-based decisions and referrals for appropriate health care services including recommendations from the interdisciplinary team and follow-up to ensure services are provided per plan.  Maintains dialogue and partnership with outside organizations, including but not limited to; physicians, pharmacies, colleges and universities (for clinical site opportunities), home health organizations and contracted providers. * Actively participates in professional development opportunities and looks for opportunities for staff (individuals and teams). Emergency Preparedness: * Responds to and acts appropriately in emergencies and/or disasters. * Responsible for review and knowledge of facility disaster policy location and contents. * Reports any potentially emergent situations to Administrator or Designee. * Responsible for review and knowledge of facility safety and infection control policies and procedures with strict adherence to both. Qualifications: * Current RN license in good standing with ASBN. * Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred * Must maintain all certifications and licensure, as well as any on-going training/education required by OLTC. * Five years of upper-level management experience in a long-term care or other geriatric setting is preferred. * Proficient in MS Office skills, with an ability to become familiar with BTV-specific programs and software.  Must incorporate critical thinking skills to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. * Excellent interpersonal skills, written, and oral communication. * Ability to develop and maintain positive, appropriate relationships with residents, families, coworkers, physicians and their representatives. * Uses tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in potentially sensitive and/or emotionally charged situations. * Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, develop systems to reduce problems, educate others on the systems, and monitor results. * Ability to organize and prioritize job responsibilities, and to work independently. * Must respect confidentiality of resident and coworker information. * Ability to rotate nursing call with other administrative nursing staff in order to provide a satisfactory answer/resolution to any nursing-related questions that arise after business hours.
