SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Director of Operational Excellence is integral in the areas of Manufacturing and all other cross-functional areas engaged with Manufacturing, including Materials and Inventory, Quality Control and Assurance, Project Management, Field Ops, and other functional areas affecting the overall effectiveness of the organization.
The incumbent is responsible for developing, facilitating, and training continuous improvement initiatives applicable to Manufacturing and Production performance to enhance the availability, and overall effectiveness of human, equipment, and materials assets for maximized production through-put, quality, and schedule attainment. In addition, the Director or Operational Excellence will facilitate the same methods across other functional areas including Supply Chain and Field Operations.
The Director of Operational Excellence manages continuous improvement projects ensuring progress, continuity, and sustainability; Drives discipline and accountability for Production, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Safety, and People Development across the company; Performs as an influencer and coach for transformation initiatives and strategic problem solving that drives results, schedule, and goal attainment thus fulfilling customer expectations and; Conducts business as a strong facilitator and trainer who embodies servant leadership.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or relevant work experience minimum of 10 years plant management and Lean Manufacturing Experience, Continuous Improvement, and application of Lean Six Sigma principles and improvement initiatives.
  • 10+ years’ experience in lean manufacturing environment with a record of proven accomplishments,
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrates ability to work well with others in a matrix team environment.
  • Measurable degree of six-sigma training or exposure to methodology.
  • Must have experience in identifying areas of improvement, planning for and leading Kaizen events.
  • Independent thought, good judgment, problem solving skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Must be self-motivated requiring little to no supervision.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in a high-volume durable goods manufacturing environment
Responsibilities
  • Deploys and implements lean and world class methodologies in manufacturing team initiatives that are aimed at continuously improving manufacturing, operational, quality and safety processes while eliminating non-value add processes to reduce cost.
  • Conducts Kaizen events and Lean training in pilot areas and other specific plant functions.
  • Maintains lean implementation schedules for assigned projects, communicates progress updates as required, and most importantly, provide documentation that demonstrates the direct link between lean implementation and direct process improvement and plant operations.
  • Provides CI training and coaching at all levels of the assigned site.
  • Acts as a CI facilitator and plant wide SME in the optimization of the production line flow, identifies, bottle necks, addresses concerns, devises solutions, gains buy-in, negotiates cross-departmentally and vies for human capital, equipment, materials, and other resources needed to implement plant flow enhancements.
  • Addresses constraint factors to production excellence and triage mission critical support systems like Materials, Inventory, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Equipment, Tools, and overall line flow and structure and present recommendations after thorough study, analysis, and hands-on assessment of bottle necks, and impediments to production line flow.
  • Devises and executes on opportunities for improvement of Punch Operations with focus on Labor Productivity, Planning, Budgeting, Scheduling, and Accountability of field management and support staff.
  • Creates and implements a Change Management strategic approach organizationally through facilitation of change and improvement initiatives with focus to eliminate obstacles, hesitance, and to gain buy-in and support for Company strategy, mission, vision, and values.
