JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Operations plans, directs and coordinates distribution center operations in order to support sales and profitability objectives. Ensures that goods are efficiently received, verified, stored, processed and delivered to customers and ensures that distribution centre operations meet all relevant local, provincial and federal requirements. Manage distribution centre workforce and coordinate customer-related activities with alternate business units within the Winnipeg marketplace.

SECTION B – POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-Secondary degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in distribution, warehousing or manufacturing environment
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry an asset
  • Experience with automation an asset
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a complex leadership capacity
  • Labour Relations/ Employee Relations experience
  • Demonstrated experience with Six Sigma, Lean Principles and process improvement
  • Ability to establish and analyze business metrics to effectively set targets and standards of performance
  • Strong organization and tactical planning skills
  • Ability to take initiative, strong work ethic, behave with a sense of urgency
  • Demonstrated change management, problem solving & decision-making capabilities
  • Flexible schedule requirements
  • Ability to travel (minimal)
  • Strong communication and analytical skills (Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite).

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the enforcement of Security, Regulatory and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) regulations, policies and programs. The application of these policies and programs is to take a leadership position in safeguarding the health of the patients as well as ensuring the proper storage and distribution of medicine, medical devices and active pharmaceutical products in a safe and secure environment for our employees
  • Is accountable for ensuring proper review, update and audit of Security, Regulatory and GMP policies and programs to ensure compliance
  • Monitors, maintains and identifies opportunities to improve customer service levels for all customers
  • Ensures that responsibilities are defined and assigned to managers, supervisors and employees to maximize efficiency and productivity
  • Supports and executes performance reviews for DC Leadership team, initiating development plans and actively coaching areas of opportunity
  • In coordination with Regional HR, ensure workforce planning requirements are completed and monitored; provide opportunities for development and training for Leadership team as required
  • Ensures policies and practices are respected related to employee/labour relations and promotes efforts to build strong employee engagement
  • Maintains appropriate communications with all levels of the organization and ensures that distribution centre employees are aware of company’s progress and direction
  • Administers policies and practices related to employee /labour relations (Bargaining, Union-Management Committees and Grievances hearing) in conjunction with Human Resources. If applicable, participates in the negotiation of the collective agreement(s).
  • Responsible for maintaining inventories at levels that maximize both service levels and turns
  • Supports and coordinates implementation of marketplace and corporate programs in sales, marketing, finance, human resources and information services
  • Analyzes operating and delivery procedures, systems and schedules and all other distribution centre activities to identify potential efficiency improvements and cost-savings
  • Responsible for preparing and submitting the expense and capital expenditure budgets for the distribution centre; operating within outlined parameters
  • Actively analyze on-going expenses within the DC to ensure that budgets are met and take corrective action where variances occur
  • Actively encourage the Six Sigma program of continuous improvement by identifying cost reduction or quality improvement initiatives and sponsoring those initiatives as a process owner
  • Ensures that all vehicles, equipment, buildings and property are maintained in accordance with Company standards
  • Ensures that Distribution Centre security standards are followed
  • Ensure that health and safety practices are followed within the workplace through on-going monitoring of health and safety programs and audits; provision of all equipment, material and protective devices; appointing / ensuring managers are competent in Health and Safety.
