Description
Director, Cancer Treatment Navigation Location: Remote (US-Based) | Type: Full-Time | Reports to: Chief Operating Officer EQL Tech is working with a philanthropic foundation dedicated to advancing the future of cancer treatment. The future of cancer care is being shaped by rapidly declining costs in genomic sequencing, interpretation, and drug manufacturing. This is leading to more complete diagnostics, combination therapies, and personalized medicines. By helping patients access these cutting-edge approaches today, we not only support individuals facing cancer but also generate learning effects that bring these treatments closer for all future patients. Role Overview The philanthropic foundation is hiring a Director of Patient Navigation to serve as an information concierge and care coordinator for individuals navigating a cancer diagnosis or disease progression. This role does not involve providing medical advice or delivering direct medical care. Instead, the Director serves as a critical bridge - helping patients and their families understand their options, navigate the healthcare system, and successfully onboard with concierge medicine providers. Following significant media coverage around the funder's work in this space, there has been a surge of people reaching out to learn about and pursue similar treatment approaches. Existing providers do not have the capacity to provide the level of personal guidance that newly diagnosed or progressing patients require. The Director will support approximately 20 patients per year, providing sustained, high-touch coordination during one of the most challenging periods of their lives. Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary point of contact for patients newly diagnosed with cancer or experiencing disease progression, guiding them through available treatment options and emerging approaches Help patients and their families evaluate and onboard with concierge medicine providers, including managing the application and acceptance process Provide holistic coordination that extends beyond the medical - supporting patients in managing family dynamics, logistics, and the emotional toll of a diagnosis Translate complex scientific and clinical information into clear, accessible guidance for patients and caregivers (without providing direct medical advice) Stay current on advances in genomic sequencing, personalized therapies, combination treatment approaches, and the evolving landscape of precision oncology Maintain detailed records of patient interactions and outcomes to support organizational learning and program improvement Scope of Role This position is explicitly not a clinical role. The Director of Patient Navigation does not provide medical advice, diagnoses, or treatment recommendations. The role is one of information concierge and care coordinator - ensuring patients have access to the right resources, providers, and support systems to make informed decisions about their own care. Why This Role Matters There is a growing gap between the cutting-edge cancer treatments that are becoming available and the ability of patients to access and navigate them. Concierge medicine providers offer powerful clinical services but lack the bandwidth to provide the personal guidance patients need during the most overwhelming time of their lives. This role fills that gap - offering human-centered support that helps patients move from diagnosis to action with confidence and clarity. Required Qualifications Advanced degree in a life sciences discipline (e.g., molecular biology, genetics, oncology, pharmacology, biomedical sciences, or a closely related field) Foundational understanding of cancer biology, genomics, and modern treatment modalities including immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and personalized medicine Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills - able to convey complex scientific concepts to patients and families with empathy and clarity Demonstrated ability to work with individuals under significant emotional distress; prior experience in patient advocacy, genetic counseling, clinical research coordination, or similar roles is highly valued Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple patient relationships simultaneously with meticulous follow-through Self-directed and comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage environment with evolving processes Desirable Qualifications Doctoral-level training in a relevant scientific discipline Prior experience in patient navigation, oncology social work, genetic counseling, or concierge medicine coordination Familiarity with the clinical trial landscape and emerging cancer treatment paradigms Experience working with high-net-worth or high-profile individuals in a service-oriented capacity Compensation & Benefits Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Flexibility: 100% Remote (US-based). Impact: High-leverage role improving the future of cancer treatment. PATNAV
