Description

The Director of Pharmacy Operations and PIC is a pivotal leadership role within the pharmacy, with a primary responsibility of overseeing the entire operations of the facility including regulatory and compliance.
As the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC), the Director will provide strategic leadership and oversight of clinical pharmacy services, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and governance functions. This role ensures that all pharmacy services meet the required federal and state laws, industry standards, accreditation requirements, and internal policies. Working closely with pharmacy leadership, the Director will help achieve production goals, support daily operational duties, monitor staff training, and collaborate with education and compliance teams to ensure pharmacy personnel are fully trained and compliant with regulatory requirements.
The Director will play a crucial role in fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and patient-centered care, ensuring that high-quality, compliant care is delivered consistently across the organization. This position works collaboratively across all levels of the business – pharmacy operations, shared services, and executive leadership – to support operational success, thereby ensuring the organization’s efficiency and continuous improvement.
Furthermore, the Director will partner closely with the corporate compliance and quality teams to monitor service quality, identify trends, and implement continuous improvement strategies aimed at enhancing pharmacy performance and patient safety. By overseeing daily operational workflows, monitoring staff training, and ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and internal policies, the Director will contribute to the seamless and compliant operation of the pharmacy.
Ultimately, this role is crucial in fostering a culture of safety, integrity, and patient-centered care, while driving operational excellence and ensuring regulatory compliance throughout the organization.

EDUCATION

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor’s in Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5–8 years of experience in clinical pharmacy, regulatory compliance, or specialty/mail-order pharmacy operations.
  • Proven experience as a Pharmacist-in-Charge or in a similar regulatory leadership role.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of management experience, overseeing no fewer than 3 direct/indirect reports.
  • Previous experience working with auditors, inspectors, and regulatory agencies.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy laws, including REMS, DSCSA, HIPAA, state-specific Board of Pharmacy regulations, and URAC standards.
  • Experience interpreting compliance requirements and regulations from the DEA, FDA, and state pharmacy boards.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy management systems and regulatory databases.
  • Familiarity with customer relationship management systems.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to use pharmaceutical and medical reference literature to provide drug information to healthcare providers and patients.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Maintain required continuing education (CEU) credits to uphold licensure.
  • Participate in professional development and support staff training initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by pharmacy leadership.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
