ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

The Real Estate Council of Austin, Inc. (RECA) is a highly regarded and influential 501(c)(6) non-profit organization that serves more than 1,800 commercial real estate professionals in Central Texas. RECA’s membership includes developers, builders, financial institutions, architects, engineers, and others with a professional interest in commercial real estate. Our organization represents hundreds of companies and thousands of employees across Central Texas.
The Real Estate Council of Austin is the premier advocacy organization for the Central Texas commercial real estate industry. RECA serves as an effective advocate for the industry on issues including building regulations and permitting, affordability, mobility, the environment, and other issues that impact the quality of life in Central Texas. Daily operations in RECA’s downtown office are managed by a small staff with oversight by a Board of Directors.

POSITION SUMMARY

RECA seeks a dynamic leader in research and policy to serve as the Director of Policy for the organization. Working in collaboration with the CEO, Vice President of Advocacy, and the Board of Directors, this position will help develop and execute the policy platform of the organization. A passion for RECA’s mission and its members is essential.

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 4+ years of experience in an advocacy role or related policy position
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Demonstrated experience working for a political campaign or in government
  • Demonstrated experience in a policy role with an industry-related advocacy organization
  • Strong understanding of state and local legislative processes
  • Relationships with policymakers of interest and importance to the organization
  • Knowledge of local commercial real estate policies
Responsibilities
  • Work with the Vice President of Advocacy to provide strategy on key policy issues and advocacy projects
  • Lead research and analysis on key policy issues at the city, county, and state
  • Advise on political strategy for RECA’s political action committees and local election involvement
  • Work with the VP of Advocacy to formulate and implement RECA’s legislative agenda and advocate for RECA-led priority bills during the Legislative Session
  • Lead RECA’s member committees including the Policy Committee, Transportation Committee, Community Issues Task Force, and Affordability Committee
  • Communicate RECA’s positions on issues concerning the commercial real estate industry with the CEO, board chair, key board members, RECA staff, and membership at large
  • Cultivate and maintain excellent relationships with partner organizations, advocacy groups, City/County staff, and elected officials’ staff
  • Testify at public hearings on behalf of RECA including, but not limited to: City Council, Travis County Commissioners Court, State hearings, and other meetings deemed necessary by the CEO
