Description

Director of Product & Merchandising (Medical Scrubs): Shiftwear
Join Shiftwear in revolutionizing medical apparel with innovative designs and rapid supply solutions for healthcare professionals. We’re committed to redefining what healthcare uniforms can be—combining exceptional fit, durable performance fabrics, and unmatched speed-to-campus for clinics and health systems nationwide.
Company: Shiftwear (VC-backed startup)
Location: Hialeah
Reports to: CEO / Managing Partner
Why this role
Are you ready to be a hands-on builder at a high-growth startup? Shiftwear is seeking a Director of Product & Merchandising to own product strategy and day-to-day execution across merchandising, sourcing, and inventory—while partnering closely with Sales to drive institutional (B2B) growth. Your expertise will directly shape the next generation of medical scrubs and impact professionals in the field.

What you’ll own

  • Product strategy & roadmap: Build the 12–18 month line plan across scrubs, lab coats, and accessories. Define SKU architecture, pricing, margin targets, and size curves by channel (DTC, retail, B2B campuses). Lead concept-to-shelf development—writing briefs, selecting fabrics/trims, establishing fit blocks, creating tech packs, coordinating sampling and wear testing with clinicians, and overseeing commercialization.
  • Merchandising & inventory: Create seasonal assortments and launch calendars; set Open-to-Buy (OTB, or purchasing budgets) and demand plans; drive sell-through and weeks-of-supply targets. Establish core planning routines (line reviews, buy meetings, OTB, monthly S&OP [Sales & Operations Planning]) and implement size/pack strategies tailored for campus programs.
  • Sourcing, production & quality: Source, negotiate, and manage vendors (mills, cut-and-sew, trims); set minimum order quantities (MOQs), lead times, and cost/margin guardrails. Oversee light on-site production/decoration (e.g., embroidery/heat press) and ensure quality control, testing, and compliance standards. Implement or optimize Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems (e.g., Centric, WFX, Backbone) to manage tech packs, bills of materials (BOMs), costings, and SKU hygiene, and leverage ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) tools as needed.
  • Go-to-market & cross-functional leadership: Partner with Sales/BD to win campus and health-system uniform programs (assortment proposals, pricing, service levels, and onboarding). Merchandise the website and any showroom/retail presence; collaborate with Marketing on product stories, PDP (Product Detail Page) content, and launch assets.
  • Build and lead a small team—with opportunities to shape team culture and processes from the ground up. Mentor and develop direct reports (e.g., technical design, planning/merch, production coordinator) and manage external design/fit resources.

Success looks like

  • Achieve target gross margin by style/category; launch collections on schedule
  • Sell-through and stock-to-sales at or above plan; maintain healthy weeks of supply
  • Meet or exceed campus fill rates and replenishment SLAs (service level agreements); keep returns/defects below benchmarks
  • Ensure on-time vendor delivery and cost variance within tolerance

What you’ve done

  • 7–10+ years in apparel product/merchandising (medical apparel/uniforms, workwear, or high-volume basics strongly preferred)
  • Full lifecycle ownership from brief to bulk production; proven vendor management.
  • Built or rebuilt planning and Open-to-Buy processes; adept at managing small starting inventories and rapid restocks
  • Hands-on with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management systems, e.g., Centric, WFX, Backbone), Adobe Illustrator, and advanced Excel; ERP (e.g., NetSuite, ApparelMagic) a plus
  • Experience supporting B2B/institutional programs (campuses, health systems) and production/decoration workflows
  • Startup mindset: sleeves rolled up, bias to action, data-driven, comfortable with ambiguity

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of performance fabrics (4-way stretch, moisture management, antimicrobial finishes) and basic testing standards
  • E-commerce merchandising and PDP conversion optimization experience
  • Sustainability and responsible sourcing initiatives

Compensation

  • Competitive salary Benefits package.
