Description
Director of Quality Vessel Technologies | York, PA At Vessel Technologies, we're not just building housing—we're reimagining what housing can be. Our York, PA factory manufactures large-format structural wall and floor panels used in modular apartment construction. By combining manufacturing precision with construction innovation, we are building a scalable, repeatable system for high-quality housing. As we scale production, we are seeking a Director of Quality to architect and implement a world-class Quality Management System (QMS) from the ground up — one that enables rapid growth without compromising performance, safety, or compliance. This is a foundational leadership role responsible for embedding ISO 9001-level rigor into a startup manufacturing environment and preparing Vessel for NTA (National Technical Authority) third-party inspection and long-term multi-factory replication. \n \n $135,000 - $175,000 a year Job Description The Director of Quality will design, implement, and lead Vessel’s Quality Management System aligned with ISO 9001 principles, while preparing the organization for NTA third-party inspection and other regulatory oversight. This role requires both strategic thinking and hands-on execution. You will write the quality manual, build the documentation architecture, establish inspection standards, train the factory team, lead audits, and personally drive root cause analysis on the floor. You will ensure that as Vessel scales, we do not “stub our toe” on quality — and that our systems are robust enough to replicate across multiple factories in the future. Key Responsibilities · Design and implement a scalable Quality Management System aligned with ISO 9001 principles. · Develop the Quality Manual, procedures, work instructions, and document control systems. · Establish CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) systems and internal audit programs. · Lead preparation for NTA third-party inspection and serve as primary liaison with NTA and other regulatory bodies. · Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, structural standards, and manufacturing requirements. · Establish in-process and final inspection protocols for wall and floor panel production. · Implement non-conformance tracking and structured root cause analysis processes. · Develop supplier qualification and incoming material inspection standards. · Build feedback loops from field installation back into factory process improvements. · Design quality systems that can be replicated across multiple factories. · Define and monitor KPIs including first-pass yield, defect rates, rework hours, and cost of poor quality. · Train supervisors and production leaders in quality ownership and continuous improvement practices. \n Qualifications · Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Construction Management, or related field. · 8+ years of quality leadership experience in manufacturing, modular construction, or industrial production environments. · Demonstrated experience building or significantly upgrading a QMS. · Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements (certification experience preferred but not required). · Experience working with third-party inspection bodies or regulatory authorities. · Strong root cause analysis and structured problem-solving capabilities. · Proven ability to implement systems in fast-growing or startup environments. · Comfortable operating as an individual contributor while building toward team leadership. Ideal Candidate Profile · A systems architect who can build structure from ambiguity. · Equally comfortable drafting policy documents and troubleshooting a defect on the factory floor. · Believes quality is built into the process — not inspected at the end. · Understands how manufacturing discipline enables construction scale. · Motivated by creating infrastructure that supports multi-factory expansion. · Hands-on, pragmatic, and not bureaucratic. Reporting Structure Reports to: Executive Vice President of Operations Initial scope: Individual contributor Future scope: Build and lead a Quality team including inspectors and quality engineers as production scales. What’s in It for You · Build a Quality system from the ground up. · Direct impact on how the next generation of housing is manufactured. · Influence factory design, process standards, and field performance. · Join a mission-driven team transforming the housing industry. · Competitive compensation, benefits, and growth opportunity in a scaling company. Vessel Technologies is an equal-opportunity employer.
