Description:
The Director of Racquets and Wellness is responsible for creating an inviting atmosphere for members to feel welcome and provide programs that are inclusive. Design, implement and monitor tennis and fitness programs that provide a variety of activities in response to members varying needs within pre-determined budgetary limits.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • College degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field desirable. High School Diploma or GED required,
  • Must have at least 5+ years tennis instructor experience in a high-end private club preferred.
  • Must have 2+ years experience in a Director role managing racquet sport programs.
  • Must have competitive tennis background in juniors, college, and or adult.
  • Minimum NTPR rating of 4.5 required.
  • Knowledge of court maintenance and equipment care.
  • Ability to perform duties as a competitive player and/or representative in Pro-Am’s for all racquet sports.
  • Ability to string racquets, re-grip, and perform minor repairs to tennis, paddle, and pickleball equipment.
  • Knowledge of club rules and policies for racquet sports.
  • Must be certified in both tennis and pickleball and maintain membership in the Racquet Sports Professional Association (RSPA).
  • Must be computer proficient. Knowledge of windows-based programs such as Word, Excel. Must have knowledge of point of sale programs, Experience working with Jonas is a plus.
  • CPR / First Aid / Defibrillator preferred.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing all aspects of the tennis operation, including programming, private instruction, team development, guest services, and pro shop management.
  • Manages and oversees the daily operations of a fitness center
  • Directs supervision, hiring and termination of all pro shop employees.
  • Prepares preliminary budget for areas of responsibility.
  • Follows the final budget for areas of responsibility on a month-to-month basis.
  • Plans and organizes social and skill tennis events, including mixers and Club Championships. Maintains a 12-month calendar of events and keeps a current 6-month calendar of events. Posts and distributes flyers of upcoming events – including daily matches to be played. Prepare information for racquet sport members’ newsletter.
  • Has authority over all operations of Racquet Sport Pro Shop. Establishes and maintains an ongoing teaching program for Club members and gives private lessons and clinics in accordance with published fee schedule.
  • Plans and directs instructional programs
  • Provides lessons and clinics relating to the techniques and strategies of tennis and pickleball to members and guests
  • Organizes, administers and officiates at tournaments, exhibitions and inter- and intra-club social events
  • Provides practices and instruction for all USTA or CTA teams run through the club. Also provides guidance and knowledge to all team captains.
  • Administers and enforces club racquet sport policies and procedures regarding play on club courts
  • Strings racquets and performs other light equipment repairs
  • Coordinates maintenance, repair and cleaning of courts with grounds and maintenance departments
  • Writes and edits all racquet-related news for the club newsletter (includes photos when possible)
  • Selects, trains, supervises and evaluates the Assistant Racquet Sports Professional and other tennis staff
  • Manages the racquet sport shop
  • Establishes and implements an accurate inventory control system and reports results accordingly
  • Transfers all charge tickets from the shop to the accounting department
  • Develops the budget for the racquet sport profit center; takes corrective action as necessary to help assure that budget goals are met
  • Ensures that all club members and guests receive courteous, prompt and professional attention to all their racquet sport needs
  • Tennis and pickleball facilities to members and guests
  • Develops a detailed annual calendar of racquet sport activities and applicable promotional campaigns during the season
  • Maintains a close working relationship with other club professionals
  • Attends all staff and management meetings
  • Maintains an accurate record of all lessons and clinics given; provides written reports monthly
  • Inspects and maintains all physical areas constantly
  • Participates on all committees related to racquet sport operations.
  • Represents the club in area professional racquet sport activities and at state or national racquet sport events with approval from the club
  • Assists Food and Beverage Director, Chef, Banquet/Catering manager to coordinate food and beverage service support for tennis events
  • Ensures that all employees consistently comply with club’s employee manual and with all applicable federal and state employment laws
  • Design and manage group fitness classes and wellness programs tailored to club members.
  • Oversee the maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality of fitness equipment and facilities
  • Monitor fitness trends and incorporate them into the club’s offerings to enhance member satisfaction
  • Collaborate with other departments to promote wellness events, challenges, and health programs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations within the fitness center
  • Other duties as assigned.
