Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Responsible for the direction of Cardiopulmonary Services, administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. Performs diagnostic tests of cardiovascular and pulmonary systems to aid physicians in diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disorders. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Assists in formulating annual budget.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Current state Respiratory Therapist Licensure.
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Therapy.
  • Successful completion of National Resuscitation certification.
  • BLS Certification upon hire.
  • ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 9 months of employment required.
  • MOAB certification preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of previous experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services.
  • At least one (1) year previous experience in departmental management preferred.

Responsibilities
  • The Therapy Manager facilitates along with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Human Resources (HR), and Safety and Infection Control the selecting, training/orienting and assigning of department staff (either directly or through subordinate supervisor).
  • Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Develops department goals and objectives and establishes and implements policies and procedures for department operation that are consistent and supportive of hospital goals and objectives.
  • Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget.
  • Directs the preparation and maintenance of department reports. Prepares periodic reports for CEO/CNO, as required.
  • Develops policies and procedures designed to ensure appropriate provision of Cardiopulmonary Services. Ensures these polices conform to appropriate legal and regulatory requirements, including JCAHO.
  • Recommends changes for improvement in program content and in short/long-range planning in order to maintain competitiveness in the health care market.
  • Initiates budgets for cardiopulmonary services and monitors adherence to budgetary policies.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Participates in hospital/medical staff committee meetings as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
