JOB SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS

Under general supervision of his/her administrative report and the Medical Director of the unit, is responsible for the efficient, effective running of the cardiopulmonary department. This includes, but is not limited to management of the budget, provision of patient care services, scheduling, technical procedures, performance improvement, quality assurance, compliance with regulatory standards, staff development/education, regulatory agency compliance, and business development.

  • Performs Respiratory Care functions and procedures proficiently.
  • Plans patient safety initiatives and involves staff in planning.
  • Interprets and implements operational standards as applicable to areas of responsibility.
  • Provides feedback regarding Patient Safety Trends.
  • Ensures all patient care is complete, timely, appropriate, efficient and communicated.
  • Is aware of needs in areas of responsibility.
  • Keeps staff informed on Patient Safety Trends and assesses priorities.
  • Evaluates care given, competency, skill, organizational ability, then helps the staff reach their maximum potential.
  • Maintains own professional growth through appropriate organizations, workshops, seminars, and other educational endeavors.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of resolutions of any identified Patient Safety issues.
  • Assists physicians as requested.
  • Maintains adequate supplies.
  • Ability to function in all areas of the department (i.e. ICU, Nursery, ER, NICU).
  • Coordinates staff and schedule to maintain productivity levels.
  • Addresses department concerns, involving Director when appropriate.
  • Assists in establishing policies and procedures.
  • Observes and evaluates staff performance.
  • Communicates effectively with Shift Supervisors, employees and other departments.
  • Updates employee attendance/tardy records and prepares disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Completes quality assurance/performance improvement reports on a monthly/quarterly basis.
  • Reports or documents all equipment problems, notifies Biomed/Plant Operations.
  • Conduct a minimum of 10 department meetings and maintain documents.
  • Maintain updated employee records, education records, license renewals, and 90 day reviews.
  • Respond to customer concerns in a timely manner and promotes customer service within the department.

EDUCATION/SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters preferred. Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet application preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years clinical experience plus 3 years supervisory experience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations and/or Certifications

  • Respiratory Care Practitioner with current RRT license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire from an HCA approved vendor.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 90 days from an HCA approved vendor.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 120 days of hire.
