POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Retail Operations is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the efficient and effective operation of a retail organization. This position involves strategic planning, managing day-to-day operations, optimizing productivity, and ensuring exceptional customer service. The Director of Retail Operations works closely with President to develop and implement policies, procedures, and initiatives to drive revenue growth and enhance the overall performance of the retail business.
Responsible for the overall training, sales, and operations of the retail stores. This includes supporting the managers and employees in training, execution of day-to-day operations, ongoing professional development, and creating a Christ centered environment. They will oversee the hiring and development of a qualified store management team, proper execution of Employee Handbook policies and procedures, achieving and exceeding sales goals, and assisting in store-level decision making and guidance to the Retail Managers and Processing Managers, as needed.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or a related field
  • Proven experience (at least 7-10 years) in retail operations, with progressively increasing responsibilities, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Strong business acumen and a demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans.
  • Excellent leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Solid understanding of retail operations, including inventory management, visual merchandising, and customer service best practices.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make informed decisions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Responsibilities

DIRECTOR OF RETAIL OPERATIONS ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise a high-performing Retail sales team, ensuring proper staffing levels and providing ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
  • Work with GIK process including donations, in-kind donation tracking, and scheduling pick-up of donated items.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop long-term strategies and goals for the retail business, including expansion plans, market penetration, and revenue targets.
  • Policies and Procedures: Develop and implement standardized policies and procedures for retail operations, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze sales and operational data to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to increase sales, reduce costs, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Financial Management: Develop and manage the annual budget for the Retail stores, closely monitoring expenses, revenue, and profitability.
  • Vendor Management: Establish and maintain relationships with key vendors and suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of products and services.
  • Store Design and Layout: Collaborate with the visual merchandising team to optimize store layout and product placement, creating an appealing and customer-friendly environment.
  • Customer Experience: Ensure exceptional customer service standards are maintained throughout all retail locations, implementing strategies to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Market Analysis: Stay updated on industry trends, consumer behavior, and competitor activities, making recommendations for adjustments to retail strategies and offerings.
  • Coach and mentor managers on how to lead team members, weekly operations meetings, training, and other team building exercises.
  • Lead and train the team in the following:
  • Proper handling of financials, including cash, checks, credit card statements, etc.
  • Oversee the accuracy of the Daily Reconciliation Sales Report, bank deposits, daily sales charts, category sales chart, donations chart etc.
  • Exceptional guest services and experience that ensure our shoppers will return.
  • Organized, clearly communicated, and executed volunteer support.
  • Work with employees and managers to ensure the physical appearance of the stores is acceptable. This includes clean and organized displays, overall cleanliness, inventory control, visual merchandising, and customer service.
  • Support Managers when customer service issues arise or when incident or accident reports arise, to ensure they are reported and handled properly in a timely manner.
  • Cultivate an atmosphere of teamwork and facilitate high levels of communication between retail and logistics departments.
  • Develop and prepare Managers for a potential future role as Director of multiple stores.
  • Conduct other tasks and projects assigned by the President.
