TRI POINTE HOMES IS LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCED, ENTHUSIASTIC INDIVIDUAL TO JOIN OUR TALENTED GROUP AS A DIRECTOR OF RISK MANAGEMENT.

Position Highlights: Lead the risk management function company-wide, working strategically and collaboratively with other members of the corporate and operating management teams as well as insurance brokers and carriers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support company-wide business units in all aspects of established risk management, loss control programs and related initiatives, while developing, modifying and implementing continuous improvements.
  • Drive overall risk management strategy and risk management efficiencies throughout the organization while effectively driving results with internal team members and external vendors.
  • Negotiate policy renewals, premiums and coverages on all insurance policies and maintain proactive administration of insurance programs, including the company’s Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP).
  • Manage strategically and tactically insurance brokers, insurance carriers and outside risk management and safety vendors.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to manage and support companywide safety program.
  • Review relevant portions of agreements, including leases, project financing documents, construction agreements, subcontractor agreements and other contracts, for attorneys and internal business units to ensure minimization of risk, best risk transfer practices and related certificate of insurance tracking and compliance processes.
  • Manage tracking of erosion of self-insured retention limits and coordinate reportable insurance claims with applicable internal and external parties.
  • Prepare company information for insurance renewals while collaborating with insurance brokers to present and market company’s risk profile to insurance underwriters.
  • Provide assistance to attorneys in dealing with complex claims issues affecting the company.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in insurance marketplace, including capacity, coverages, rates, self-insured retentions, etc. and ensure that the risk management strategy and company adjust accordingly.
  • Analyze appropriate levels of risk transfer and self-insured retentions in alignment with company’s risk tolerance levels.
  • Manage relationship with the leadership teams of the homebuilding divisions for assistance with risk management needs.
  • Coordinate with accounting staff and attorneys on insurance-related matters, including liability and warranty claims and litigation.
  • Oversee and collaborate with stakeholders in managing company’s business resilience program, including emergency response and business continuity programs.
  • Manage and develop risk management team members.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • Minimum of 10 years in risk management, with at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory role, within a corporate risk management department
  • Risk management designation a plus (i.e., CPCU, ARM)

Position Skills:

  • Understanding of complex topics in the field of risk management such as insuring a joint venture, contractual risk transfer, indemnification, subrogation and related issues on construction agreements. Exposure to a wholly-owned captive insurance company is a plus
  • Working knowledge of more than one of the following: Real Estate, Construction, OCIPs, CCIPs, and Subcontractor Default Insurance
  • Excellent knowledge of property and casualty insurance policies, terms and conditions
  • Solid understanding of claims language and terms
  • Strong ability to negotiate insurance provisions within contracts with external parties
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage several tasks or projects concurrently
  • This is a high visibility position and, as such, requires a poised, motivated individual with excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to think and act toward innovative and progressive solutions

Physical Requirements:

  • Optional minimal travel to homebuilding divisions
  • Sedentary for extended periods, 4 or more hours per day
  • Hearing ability for frequent calls and meetings
  • Visual acuity for detailed computer work
  • Use of fine motor skills for tasks requiring precision such as typing
