Department: Facilities                           Reports to: Vice President of Facilities & Maintenance Supervises: School Safety Officers in collaboration with Principals     FLSA Status: Exempt   Summary: The Director of Safety and Security oversees all aspects of organizational safety, security, and law enforcement operations. This position manages School Safety staff, develops and enforces policies, ensures legal and regulatory compliance, and coordinates emergency response efforts. The Director provides leadership and fosters a culture of safety, accountability, and community trust.   Essential duties and responsibilities:   * DEPARTMENT LEADERSHIP & OPERATIONS * MANAGES ALL DEPARTMENTAL OPERATIONS AND PERSONNEL, INCLUDING ASSIGNING WORK, EVALUATING PERFORMANCE, AND APPROVING HIRING, DISCIPLINARY, AND TERMINATION ACTIONS. * OVERSEES DIVISIONS SUCH AS PATROL, INVESTIGATIONS, AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TO ENSURE EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT LAW ENFORCEMENT AND SECURITY OPERATIONS. * PROVIDES LEADERSHIP DURING MAJOR INCIDENTS, DIRECTING EMERGENCY RESPONSE EFFORTS AND ENSURING EFFECTIVE COORDINATION WITH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL PARTNERS.. * POLICY DEVELOPMENT & COMPLIANCE * DEVELOPS, IMPLEMENTS, AND ENFORCES SAFETY AND SECURITY POLICIES, PROGRAMS, AND PROCEDURES IN ALIGNMENT WITH FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL LAWS. * ENSURES COMPLIANCE WITH LAWS, REGULATIONS, AND REPORTING REQUIREMENTS, INCLUDING THE CLERY ACT, TITLE IX, AND VEHICLE STOPS REPORT (VSR), CHAPTER 590.650 RSMO. * OVERSEES DEPARTMENTAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS, EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION PROTOCOLS, AND INCIDENT REPORTING. * CONDUCTS AND SUPERVISES INVESTIGATIONS, INCLUDING CITIZEN COMPLAINTS AND INTERNAL REVIEWS, AND ENSURES ADHERENCE TO PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS. * BUDGET & RESOURCE MANAGEMENT * PREPARES, MONITORS, AND ADMINISTERS DEPARTMENTAL BUDGETS; ASSESSES OPERATIONAL NEEDS AND ALLOCATES RESOURCES EFFICIENTLY. * RESEARCHES AND DEVELOPS BID SPECIFICATIONS FOR DEPARTMENTAL PROJECTS, EQUIPMENT, AND TRAINING INITIATIVES. * TRAINING & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT * OVERSEES DEPARTMENTAL TRAINING PROGRAMS AND ENSURES COMPLIANCE WITH POST AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS. * COORDINATES AND EVALUATES ONGOING STAFF DEVELOPMENT, CERTIFICATION RENEWALS, AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TRAINING. * SERVES AS OFFICER IN CHARGE OF THE DEPARTMENT PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS DIVISION AND MANAGES DEPARTMENTAL DRUG TESTING PROCEDURES. * COMMUNITY RELATIONS & COLLABORATION * BUILDS AND MAINTAINS POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH STAFF, FACULTY, STUDENTS, AND EXTERNAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EMERGENCY AGENCIES. * REPRESENTS THE DEPARTMENT AT COMMUNITY EVENTS, ADVISORY COMMITTEES, AND INTERAGENCY MEETINGS. * PROMOTES COMMUNITY POLICING STRATEGIES, CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS, AND PROACTIVE SAFETY INITIATIVES. * STRATEGIC PLANNING & ANALYSIS * ANALYZES DEPARTMENTAL DATA, STATISTICS, AND REPORTS TO ASSESS SERVICE NEEDS AND PROGRAM EFFECTIVENESS. * DEVELOPS STRATEGIC PLANS TO REDUCE CRIME, IMPROVE OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY, AND ENHANCE PUBLIC SAFETY OUTCOMES. * PROVIDES RECOMMENDATIONS FOR POLICY OR PROCEDURAL IMPROVEMENTS TO SUPPORT LONG-TERM SECURITY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS GOALS. * OTHER DUTIES * EXECUTES INCLEMENT WEATHER AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROTOCOLS AS ASSIGNED. * PARTICIPATES IN SPECIAL EVENT PLANNING AND COORDINATION. * PERFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.   Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.   Minimum Qualifications * Valid Missouri POST Class A License (or equivalent). * Valid driver’s license and ability to meet organizational driving requirements. * Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field or at least 15 years of progressive law enforcement experience. * Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. * Comprehensive knowledge of police administration principles, public safety operations, and emergency management. * Familiarity with higher education or institutional safety principles (if applicable). * Strong understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws, policies, and compliance standards. * Proven leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to motivate, train, and evaluate diverse teams. * Exceptional judgment, decision-making, and crisis management abilities under pressure. * Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report preparation and public presentations. * Proficiency with computers, data analysis, and law enforcement technology systems. * Ability to develop strategic plans, assess operational needs, and implement process improvements. * Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, community leaders, and partner agencies.   Physical Requirements The physical demands of this position are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The Director must be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to respond swiftly to emergency situations, which may involve running, climbing, or other physical exertion. Visual and auditory acuity are necessary to observe surroundings, monitor safety conditions, and operate standard or specialized safety equipment.
