San Luis Valley Health is seeking an experienced Director of Safety and Emergency Preparedness to lead our organizational safety, security, and emergency management programs. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, fosters a culture of safety, and provides strategic leadership in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on patient, staff, and visitor safety while shaping a proactive emergency management culture. You’ll work collaboratively across the organization and with community partners to ensure readiness and resilience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Safety, Emergency Management, Healthcare/Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience in public safety, security, or emergency preparedness.
  • Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), or equivalent.
  • FEMA ICS training (100, 200, 700, 800 required; 300/400 preferred).
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and manage crises effectively.
Responsibilities
  • Lead development and oversight of safety policies, risk assessments, and compliance with OSHA, Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, and EPA.
  • Direct the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), hazard vulnerability assessments, and disaster drills.
  • Serve as Incident Commander or key HICS leader during emergencies.
  • Oversee third-party security contract and manage security systems and audits.
  • Develop and deliver training programs; coordinate drills and exercises.
  • Collaborate with internal leaders, regulatory agencies, and community partners.
  • Participate in Administrator On-Call rotation (approx. 5 weeks per year).
