Fairmont Cheshire, The Mere is seeking a dynamic Director of Sales and Marketing to lead the hotel’s commercial strategy. This role is responsible for maximising revenue and profit, driving sustainable business growth, and identifying new opportunities to strengthen the hotel’s market position. As a key member of the hotel’s Executive Team, the Director of Sales and Marketing will play a critical role during the pre-opening phase and beyond, contributing to strategic decision-making, brand positioning, and the successful launch and long-term commercial performance of the resort. The role will be an integral part of the hotel’s pre-opening team, supporting readiness planning, market entry strategy, and the successful launch of the resort. Beyond sales, the Director will oversee market alignment, strategic pricing, reputation management, customer insights, and marketing initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a passionate leader and team player, highly organised, commercially driven, and relationship-focused. They will be proactive, detail-oriented, and confident in engaging with high-end clients, travel advisors, and industry partners, playing a pivotal role in maintaining the hotel’s reputation for excellence. Job Description Your key responsibilities & contribution will be: Own the preparation, implementation and compilation of data for the strategic sales plan, monthly and annual performance reporting, annual goals tracking, sales and marketing budgets, forecasts and ad-hoc reports as required. Prepare, implement and compile data for the strategic sales plan, monthly reporting, annual goals, sales and marketing budget, forecasts and other reports as directed/required Analyse monthly P&L and month-end reports, identify deviation from business plan goals Work with Finance and team in preparation and management of the department’s budget and financial forecasts Analyse monthly P&L and month-end financial reports, identify deviations from business plan goals, and recommend corrective actions in collaboration with Finance and Revenue teams. Participate in management and leadership meetings to review progress against departmental and overall business plan goals and contribute to the development and refinement of the annual business plan. Develop and implement strategy to maximize hotel revenue. Determine, recommend and win prospective clients from market information and other resources. Develop and maintain prospect list at all times and ensure that there is sufficient pipeline. Ensure effective relationship management of existing accounts. Exceed personal goals as well as department budget on a yearly basis. Work closely with the General Manager and Revenue Director in preparing monthly forecasts, departmental budget, and function space yield maximization. Work closely with the Finance team in the preparation, management and ongoing review of departmental budgets and financial forecasts. Responsible for developing the Sales & Marketing plan for the business, working in conjunction with the Marketing Manager. Conducts regular competitive pricing and product offering surveys. Establish and maintain relationships with counterparts within Fairmont hotels teams that can provide referral business. Participate in tradeshows, conventions and promotional events within the hotel and trade related organizations. Ensure and enforce the integrity of sales platform data across all verticals at all times. Attend leadership, revmax meetings, monthly profit and loss reviews and other meetings as required. Direct and manage all group, transient, and catering/banquet sales activities to maximize revenue for the hotel Survey, review and analyze competition, market trends, customer needs and comments in order to be proactive and adapt with business intelligence Determine the effectiveness of existing programs and develop new strategies Manage/direct all advertising, public relations and promotional activities in conjunction with corporate marketing and public relations departments Maintain visibility across the property, participate in sales presentations, property tours and customer meetings Evaluate changes in guest needs, the guest mix and competitive set, to recommend appropriate product/service and operational changes as necessary Participate in community and professional organizations to maintain high visibility and promote a positive image Responsible for supervising the Sales team and effectively maintain staff schedules. Qualifications What you will need to do this role? Bachelor’s degree in business administration, hospitality management, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a Director of Sales & Marketing in a single property or a cluster of hotels, ideally within a luxury brand. Proven track record of success in sales leadership roles within the hotel industry, with a strong focus on revenue growth and market expansion. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute effective sales strategies, drive results, and exceed targets. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing sales team. Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key clients and stakeholders. Sound business acumen and strategic thinking, with the ability to analyse market trends, identify opportunities, and make informed decisions.
