The Director of Sales is responsible for leading our commercial strategy, revenue growth, and customer engagement while leveraging technology, data, and technical services to strengthen our competitive differentiation. In this role, you’ll integrate sales with technology-enabled operations and technical services to elevate service performance, strengthen customer relationships, and drive efficiency across all customer-facing processes from opportunity development to post-sale support. You’ll use analytics, financial insight, and technical capabilities to guide decisions, deepen account insights, and help us continue to drive excellence in our organization. This position is ideal for a strategic, customer-centric leader with strong cross-functional influence and the ability to turn opportunity into measurable business outcomes. Position Specifics Onsite position based in either Saukville, WI or Cleveland, OH 50% travel Key Responsibilities Commercial Leadership & Growth Owns revenue, margin, and customer retention targets across key market segments. Translates corporate strategy into actionable commercial plans and measurable performance metrics for the sales organization. Partners with Marketing, CX, and Technical Services to position Charter Steel’s capabilities as differentiators that drive market expansion and customer loyalty. Leads strategic account planning, ensuring customer roadmaps, contracts, and engagement models support long-term growth. Technology-Enabled Sales Execution Implements scalable, technology-enabled sales processes that improve efficiency, consistency, and cost-to-serve. Ensures all customer interactions, pipeline activity, and service engagements are accurately captured in CRM and linked to financial and operational metrics. Leverages dashboards and analytics to guide forecasting, territory planning, and performance management. Customer Experience & Service Integration Uses service and technical data to enable proactive customer engagement, root-cause discussions, and insights-driven business reviews. Partners with Technical Services and Operations to ensure service KPIs of response time, resolution rate, uptime support & commercial goals will strengthen customer satisfaction. Partner with Director of Technical Serves to evolve the lab from a reactive resource to a proactive, customer-facing center of excellence that provides product analysis, performance insights, and strategic collaboration opportunities for key accounts. Operational & Financial Discipline Demonstrates strong margin, pricing, and cost-to-serve awareness in all commercial planning and decision-making. Guides the sales team in understanding cost structures and aligning customer commitments with operational realities. Drives continuous improvement and process optimization across all commercial workflows. Customer Relationship Leadership Builds deep, strategic, and multi-level relationships with key customers, ensuring Charter Steel is viewed as a trusted advisor and long-term partner. Drives consistent, proactive customer engagement informed by service data, technical insights, and performance trends. Ensures customer needs, expectations, and future requirements are clearly understood and translated into commercial and operational plans. Facilitates regular business reviews that integrate technical services, lab results, quality performance, and supply chain metrics to strengthen transparency & trust. Develops account strategies that improve satisfaction, strengthen retention, and identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and value creation. Cultivates customer feedback loops and ensures insights are captured in CRM and used to enhance processes, product offerings, and customer experience. Champions a seamless, end-to-end customer journey by aligning Sales, CX, Technical Services, and Operations around shared goals and integrated service delivery. People Leadership & Culture Builds and develops a high-performing sales team grounded in accountability, customer focus, and data-driven decision making. Coaches managers to balance operational excellence with innovation, continuous improvement, and disciplined resource allocation. Fosters a culture of cross-functional collaboration; ensuring Sales, Marketing, Technical Services, and CX operate as one integrated customer-focused organization. Qualifications 10+ years of progressive commercial or sales leadership experience, ideally within steel, metals, manufacturing, or industrial B2B sectors. Demonstrated success leading sales teams to achieve growth and margin targets in complex, technical, or engineering-driven industries. Strong financial and strategic acumen with the ability to connect commercial decisions to operational, technical, and profitability impacts. Experience implementing CRM systems, digital sales tools, or service data platforms. Proven ability to partner with technical, lab, quality, or operational teams to create customer-facing value propositions. Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
